أكد وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو اليوم (الخميس)، التزام بلاده بدعم الشعب الروسي، مشدداً على رغبة واشنطن في الانخراط البناء مع موسكو من أجل تحقيق سلام دائم بين روسيا وأوكرانيا.
وقال روبيو، في بيان نشرته وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، إنه يهنئ موسكو بمناسبة يوم روسيا، بالنيابة عن الشعب الأمريكي، مبيناً أن الولايات المتحدة تظل ملتزمة بدعم الشعب الروسي، بينما يواصل بناء تطلعاته نحو مستقبل أكثر إشراقاً.
وأضاف: «ننتهز هذه الفرصة لنؤكد رغبة الولايات المتحدة في الانخراط البنّاء مع الاتحاد الروسي من أجل تحقيق سلام دائم بين روسيا وأوكرانيا، ونأمل أن يُسهم السلام في تعزيز علاقات أكثر فائدة للطرفين بين بلدينا».
بالمقابل، تعهد سفير موسكو الجديد لدى الولايات المتحدة ألكسندر دارتشييف، خلال تقديم أوراق اعتماده إلى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أمس بالعمل على إعادة العلاقات مع واشنطن «بشكل كامل».
ونقلت وكالة «تاس» عن دارتشييف قوله للصحفيين بأنه «لم يتم التوصل إلى اتفاقات محددة بشأن لقاء بين الرئيسين الروسي فلاديمير بوتين والأمريكي دونالد ترمب، وأن الأعمال التحضيرية جارية».
وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان الجانبان الروسي والأمريكي يناقشان إمكانية عقد لقاء بين الزعيمين، قال دارتشييف: «يبدو أن الأعمال التحضيرية جارية، رغم عدم وجود اتفاقات محددة».
وأشار الدبلوماسي الروسي إلى أن الرئيس الأمريكي وجد فرصةً في جدول أعماله المزدحم لقبول أوراق اعتمادي ومقابلتي شخصياً عشية يوم روسيا، وكان شرفاً عظيماً لي كسفير روسي أن أتحدث معه، وأؤكد له أنني والسفارة تحت قيادتي سنبذل قصارى جهدنا لاستعادة العلاقات الروسية - الأمريكية، وإعادتها إلى حالتها الطبيعية والسليمة.
وأشار دارتشييف إلى أن تحسين التعاون بين موسكو وواشنطن سيصبح أسهل بعد تسليم أصول أوراق الاعتماد للرئيس الأمريكي، مبيناً أن الجانبين يناقشان مبادرات تجارية واستئناف الرحلات الجوية المباشرة.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قد قال إنه سيكون من الرائع أن تعقد روسيا وأوكرانيا محادثات في الفاتيكان لوقف الحرب، مشيراً إلى أن ذلك سيضفي أهمية إضافية على المفاوضات.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed today (Thursday) his country's commitment to supporting the Russian people, emphasizing Washington's desire to engage constructively with Moscow to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Rubio stated in a statement published by the U.S. Department of State that he congratulates Moscow on the occasion of Russia Day, on behalf of the American people, noting that the United States remains committed to supporting the Russian people as they continue to build their aspirations for a brighter future.
He added: "We take this opportunity to reaffirm the United States' desire to engage constructively with the Russian Federation to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, and we hope that peace will contribute to fostering more mutually beneficial relations between our two countries."
In contrast, the new Russian ambassador to the United States, Alexander Darchiev, pledged during his presentation of credentials to President Donald Trump yesterday to work on restoring relations with Washington "fully."
The TASS news agency reported Darchiev as saying to reporters that "no specific agreements have been reached regarding a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, and preparatory work is ongoing."
When asked whether the Russian and American sides are discussing the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders, Darchiev said: "It seems that preparatory work is underway, although there are no specific agreements."
The Russian diplomat noted that the U.S. president found an opportunity in his busy schedule to accept my credentials and meet with me personally on the eve of Russia Day, and it was a great honor for me as the Russian ambassador to speak with him and assure him that I and the embassy under my leadership will do our utmost to restore Russian-American relations and return them to their normal and healthy state.
Darchiev pointed out that improving cooperation between Moscow and Washington will become easier after the delivery of the credentials to the U.S. president, indicating that both sides are discussing business initiatives and resuming direct flights.
U.S. President Donald Trump had said it would be great for Russia and Ukraine to hold talks at the Vatican to stop the war, noting that this would add additional significance to the negotiations.
