Zelensky said during a meeting with NATO leaders in Lithuania today (Monday): “We are ready to take the necessary steps to achieve peace.” He added that if Russia undermines the Istanbul talks and they do not yield results, there will be an urgent need to impose new sanctions on it.

A Ukrainian and a Russian delegation are meeting today in Turkey for peace talks amid slim hopes for a breakthrough.

Kyiv has expressed its readiness to take significant steps towards peace during the second round of talks with the Russian delegation in Istanbul, according to a source in the Ukrainian delegation speaking to Agence France-Presse.

The source stated that the Ukrainian delegation arrived in Istanbul with a clear agenda and a desire to take significant steps towards peace, adding that Ukraine hopes the Russian side will not repeat the same conditions.

The Ukrainian delegation met with European representatives in Istanbul before the discussions with Moscow, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. It mentioned that members of the Ukrainian delegation met on Monday in Istanbul with representatives from Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom before the scheduled talks with Moscow.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hryhoriy Tyhiy stated that First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia and Ukrainian delegation member Oleksandr Pivz met with representatives of Ukraine's European partners, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, adding that the parties coordinated their positions before the meeting with the Russian delegation.

According to Russian media, the Russian delegation arrived at the Çırağan Palace in Istanbul in preparation for the negotiations. Sources reported that the new round of direct negotiations to resolve the crisis between Russia and Ukraine will start at the Çırağan Palace, scheduled to begin at 14:00.
