In preparation for the conference on the Israeli-Palestinian two-state solution scheduled to be held at the United Nations in June, which will be chaired by France alongside Saudi Arabia, French President Emmanuel Macron will begin a 6-day tour of Southeast Asia tomorrow (Sunday), including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The Élysée Palace stated that Macron's tour confirms that France is a reliable partner that respects the sovereignty and stability of the countries in the region, noting that the visit solidifies his country's strategy in the Indo-Pacific region as a "balancing power."

Macron will start his tour in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, where he is scheduled to hold political meetings (on Monday), before meeting (on Tuesday) with officials in the energy sector. He will also meet in Jakarta with the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Kao Kim Hourn, on (Wednesday) to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between France and the regional bloc.

He will visit Indonesia—the largest Muslim-majority country—to discuss the two-state solution in the context of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, in preparation for a conference that the United Nations will organize in June under joint French-Saudi sponsorship, where the issue of recognizing the State of Palestine is part of the topics raised during the Indonesian leg of the trip.

Macron is expected to conclude his visit on Friday with a speech at the opening of the "Shangri-La Dialogue" security forum in Singapore, one of the prominent regional platforms for discussing security and defense issues.

Macron's visit represents an opportunity to advocate for Paris's vision as a trusted partner to the conflicting parties in the region.
