بعد أن تعطلت مركبتهم في عمق الصحراء الكبرى خلال محاولتهم الوصول إلى ليبيا، لقي 11 لاجئاً سودانياً مصرعهم عطشاً.
وقالت وسائل إعلام ليبية إن الحادثة وقعت في منطقة صحراوية شديدة الوعورة، حيث تجاوزت درجات الحرارة الأربعين درجة مئوية، موضحة أن من بين الضحايا نساء وأطفال، بينما نجا 15 آخرون عُثر عليهم في حالة صحية متدهورة، ويتلقون حالياً الرعاية الطبية اللازمة.
وأثارت الحادثة المأساوية حجم المخاطر المتزايدة التي تهدد اللاجئين والمهاجرين غير النظاميين في المنطقة، خصوصاً أن الحادثة جاءت بعد أقل من أسبوعين على حادثة مشابهة، تمكن خلالها شابان ليبيان من مدينة الكفرة من إنقاذ نحو 30 لاجئاً سودانياً، بينهم 10 أطفال، بعد أن ظلوا عالقين في الصحراء لخمسة أيام دون ماء أو طعام.
وأشار الشابان الليبيان إلى أن اللاجئين كانوا في حالة يُرثى لها، وأنهم شرعوا في إنقاذهم ونقلهم إلى مناطق آمنة، كما واصلوا البحث عن مفقودين غادروا المركبة سيراً على الأقدام، وتم العثور عليهم في اللحظات الأخيرة.
وأعرب ناشطون ليبيون وسودانيون عن أسفهم لهذه الأحداث، مؤكدين في تعليقات على مقاطع فيديو مؤلمة للحادثتين خطورة الوضع الذي يعيشه السودانيون الذين أجبروا على اللجوء في ظل أوضاع إنسانية بالغة السوء في بلدهم.
وطالب الناشطون بضرورة التحرك للحد من هذه الكوارث المميتة والمتكررة كون رحلتهم نحو الصحراء باتجاه الشمال، في ظل انعدام الحماية وتنامي أنشطة التهريب والاتجار بالبشر، خطيرة جداً.
After their vehicle broke down deep in the Sahara during their attempt to reach Libya, 11 Sudanese refugees died of thirst.
Libyan media reported that the incident occurred in a rugged desert area, where temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, noting that among the victims were women and children, while 15 others survived and were found in a deteriorating health condition, currently receiving the necessary medical care.
The tragic incident highlighted the increasing risks facing refugees and irregular migrants in the region, especially since it occurred less than two weeks after a similar incident, in which two young Libyans from the city of Kufra managed to rescue about 30 Sudanese refugees, including 10 children, after they had been stranded in the desert for five days without water or food.
The two Libyan youths indicated that the refugees were in a pitiable state, and they began to rescue them and transport them to safe areas, while also continuing to search for missing individuals who had left the vehicle on foot, and they were found at the last moment.
Libyan and Sudanese activists expressed their sorrow over these events, confirming in comments on painful video clips of the two incidents the seriousness of the situation faced by Sudanese people who have been forced to flee amid extremely dire humanitarian conditions in their country.
The activists called for urgent action to mitigate these deadly and recurring disasters, as their journey towards the desert heading north, in the absence of protection and the growing activities of smuggling and human trafficking, is extremely dangerous.
