The Sudanese army announced today (Tuesday) that it has completed its control over Khartoum, officially confirming that it is completely free of Rapid Support Forces.
The Sudanese News Agency "SUNA" reported that the army stated: "Today marks the complete cleansing of Khartoum State from any presence of Rapid Support Forces elements, confirming that Khartoum State is entirely free of rebels."
The army said in a statement: "Your forces, with all their components, have continued to perform their duty in fighting the Rapid Support Forces, achieving victories day after day with determination and will, supported by popular backing and unity." It added: "We renew our pledge to continue our efforts until the last inch of our country is cleansed of every rebel, traitor, and agent."
Eyewitnesses confirmed this morning hearing the sound of explosions and seeing columns of smoke rising from the vicinity of the College of Education at the University of Khartoum in the city of Omdurman this morning.
The spokesperson for the Sudanese army, Nabil Abdullah, stated in a statement published by the Sudanese News Agency "SUNA" earlier today that their forces are continuing a large-scale military operation in the south and west of Omdurman, explaining that their forces are close to announcing complete control over Khartoum State.
Today, the army took control of the Salhiya area and the Rapid Support headquarters there in south Omdurman after fierce battles with the Rapid Support Forces. It also regained the "Wad Bakrawi" station, the "Qia'a" area, and the main Salhiya market.
The Salhiya area is considered the last stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum State.
