Lebanese President Joseph Aoun renewed his country's commitment to maintaining the best relations with Syria, emphasizing the importance of coordination and cooperation between the two countries to face common challenges.
During a joint press conference with President Sisi in Cairo today (Monday), Aoun stated that Lebanon is keen on coordinating with Damascus, especially regarding the issue of Syrian refugees and the necessity of ensuring their safe and dignified return to their homeland.
He affirmed his country's support for all efforts aimed at preserving Syria's unity and sovereignty, and meeting the aspirations of its people, welcoming the decision to lift sanctions against it, hoping that it would contribute to its recovery and the stability of the region.
The Lebanese president said: "Today, we are facing the challenge of peace for our entire region, and we are ready for it. We tell the whole world that only the peace of justice is the stable and lasting peace, and we are fully confident that the world seeking true peace, with your help, and thanks to Egypt raising its voice and ours, will hear and respond to the call."
For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed his country's steadfast position in supporting Lebanon, whether in terms of achieving internal stability or preserving its full sovereignty, stressing the firm rejection of Israel's repeated violations against Lebanese territory, as well as the occupation of parts of it.
He called on the international community to take responsibility for the reconstruction of Lebanon, urging international bodies and donor agencies to actively participate in this effort to ensure Lebanon's return to its natural path, towards peace, coexistence, and love in the region.
He affirmed that "Egypt will remain alongside its brother Lebanon, alongside you, and alongside the Lebanese government in all efforts aimed at preserving Lebanon's stability and sovereignty, in a way that meets the aspirations of its noble people. Let us work together to enhance our bilateral relations in all fields; so that Lebanon can regain its ancient role as a beacon of culture and enlightenment in the East and the Arab world."
He spoke about the communication between Egypt and Lebanon aiming at development and civilization, noting that there was communication between the ancient Egyptians and the Phoenicians, and in modern times, Egypt was one of the first countries since the 1940s to establish relations with Lebanon, affirming that the two countries have had a joint effort over the past years in the fields of culture, writing, and poetry.
