Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid considered that the Arab summit is being held under extremely complex circumstances and serious challenges, warning in his speech at the 34th Arab summit in Baghdad today (Saturday) that the specter of war threatens security and stability in the region. He emphasized the rejection of policies of imposition, external interventions, and the use of force, stressing the importance of political solutions and national dialogue to resolve disputes. The Iraqi president reiterated his rejection of the displacement of Gaza residents under any circumstances or labels.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani expressed his country's commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, calling for the activation of the role of "UNRWA" and the introduction of aid to Gaza. He also condemned the repeated violations of Lebanon's sovereignty. He praised the U.S. decision to lift sanctions on Syria, affirming support for building a constitutional system in Syria that includes all Syrians. The Iraqi Prime Minister announced the presentation of 18 initiatives to revitalize joint Arab action.



For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez revealed his country's intention to present a draft resolution to the United Nations to end the humanitarian blockade on Gaza, stating: "The cycle of violence in Gaza must be stopped."

During his participation in the 34th Arab League summit in Baghdad, he said: "The death toll in Gaza is enormous and unacceptable, violating international law." Sánchez called for support for the two-state solution by recognizing the Palestinian state, expressing his support for the peace conference led by Saudi Arabia and France for the two-state solution.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, hours after the Israeli army announced it was launching intensive strikes on the sector as part of expanding the battle.

Guterres said in a speech during the Arab summit, "We need a permanent ceasefire now," adding, "I am alarmed by reports that Israel intends to expand the scope of ground operations and more."

The ordinary Arab summit in its thirty-fourth session commenced in the Iraqi capital, held in the government building in the Green Zone, with the participation of several presidents, princes, and representatives from Arab countries. Baghdad is hosting the summit amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis is worsening, following a Gulf tour by U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his desire to "own" the sector.

The streets of the Iraqi capital were adorned with the flags of the 22 Arab countries, which, like other cities in the country, are experiencing relative stability after four decades of conflicts and wars.

Rashad al-Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, emphasized the necessity of adhering to the option of a just and comprehensive peace to end the Israeli occupation, calling for support for the Arab initiative and inviting France to hold a conference in New York regarding Palestine. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shabani thanked Saudi Arabia for its efforts to lift sanctions on Syria, confirming that it is an important step towards recovery and reconstruction, and stressed that there is no compromise on the Syrian people's right to self-determination.

Alongside Arab officials, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez attended, the latter of whom recognized the Palestinian state last year and is considered one of the most critical European leaders of Israel.
