في بيتٍ متواضعٍ من الطين، وبين اثني عشر فرداً يتقاسمون غرفة واحدة، وُلد حلمٌ تحدّى الواقع، هناك، في أطراف البادية، بدأ الطفل عمر ياغي رحلته من اللاشيء نحو كلّ شيء، فصار البدوي الذي صعد إلى عرش «نوبل» بعزيمةٍ لا تُقهر.
توقّف تعليم والده عند الصف السادس، والأم لم تعرف الحروف، إلا أنّهما أورثاه الإرادة وأشعلاها بشغفٍ فريد. وعندما غادر في الخامسة عشرة إلى أمريكا، حمل في قلبه دعاء البسطاء وإيمانهم بأن الحلم أقوى من الظروف.
في جامعة أريزونا انطلقت شرارة البحث، ثم تألّقت المسيرة في هارفرد وميتشغان وكاليفورنيا. أكثر من 250 ألف اقتباس علمي و300 بحثٍ و70 براءة اختراع جعلت منه أحد أبرز العلماء تأثيراً في العصر الحديث، وعنواناً للعقل السعودي الذي يرى في المختبر ميداناً للمجد.
