ألقى المندوب الدائم للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الأمم المتحدة الدكتور عبدالعزيز الواصل، بياناً نيابة عن مجموعة منظمة التعاون الإسلامي أمام اللجنة السادسة للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، تناول فيه مواقف المجموعة حيال مكافحة الإرهاب وتعزيز الأمن الدولي.
وأكّد الواصل إدانة الإرهاب بجميع أشكاله وصوره، والتشديد على أنه لا يرتبط بأي دين أو ثقافة، مشدّداً على أهمية احترام سيادة الدول ووحدة أراضيها، والدعوة إلى نهج شامل لمكافحة الإرهاب، ومعالجة أسبابه الجذرية مثل الاحتلال والفقر والعدوان، وضرورة التمييز بين الإرهاب وحق الشعوب في مقاومة الاحتلال.
وجدد إدانة المجموعة للاحتلال الإسرائيلي وجرائمه ضد الفلسطينيين، والاعتداءات على لبنان وإيران وسورية وقطر، ورفض الهجمات الأمريكية والإسرائيلية على إيران بما في ذلك حقها في الدفاع عن نفسها.
وعبّر المندوب الدائم للمملكة لدى الأمم المتحدة، عن تضامن مجموعة التعاون الإسلامي مع باكستان وإدانة الضربات الهندية في جامو وكشمير، مؤكداً دعم حق الشعب الكشميري في تقرير مصيره وفق قرارات مجلس الأمن.
وأشار إلى أهمية تعزيز إستراتيجية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الإرهاب، والتصدي لظواهر مثل الإسلاموفوبيا والعنصرية، مع الإشادة بدور مركز الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الإرهاب (UNCCT).
ودعا إلى استكمال الاتفاقية الشاملة لمكافحة الإرهاب (CCIT)، مع التأكيد على التمييز بين الإرهاب والنضال المشروع، ودعم عقد مؤتمر أممي رفيع المستوى لمعالجة القضايا القانونية وتعزيز التعاون الدولي.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, delivered a statement on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group before the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, addressing the group's positions regarding the fight against terrorism and the enhancement of international security.
Al-Wasel emphasized the condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, stressing that it is not linked to any religion or culture. He highlighted the importance of respecting the sovereignty of states and their territorial integrity, calling for a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism and addressing its root causes such as occupation, poverty, and aggression, as well as the necessity of distinguishing between terrorism and the right of peoples to resist occupation.
The group reiterated its condemnation of the Israeli occupation and its crimes against the Palestinians, as well as the aggressions against Lebanon, Iran, Syria, and Qatar, and rejected the American and Israeli attacks on Iran, including its right to defend itself.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations expressed the solidarity of the OIC group with Pakistan and condemned the Indian strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, affirming support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
He pointed to the importance of enhancing the United Nations' strategy to combat terrorism and addressing phenomena such as Islamophobia and racism, while praising the role of the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT).
He called for the completion of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), emphasizing the distinction between terrorism and legitimate struggle, and supporting the convening of a high-level UN conference to address legal issues and enhance international cooperation.
