أطلق الدكتور إبراهيم المهنا النسخة العربية من كتابه «
قادة النفط» الصادر عن دار تشكيل وترجمة أحمد التويم بالتزامن مع معرض الرياض الدولي للكتاب 2025.
وصدر الكتاب باللغة الإنجليزية في 2022، وأشاد به كثير من المسؤولين وخبراء الطاقة العالميين، ورُشّح لجوائز مهمة، وعدّته بعض الجامعات الأمريكية مرجعاً في قضايا الطاقة والشرق الأوسط.
واستعرضته وسائل إعلام عالمية عديدة، ومنها صحيفة Financial Times ووكالة أنباء Bloomberg والدورية العالمية المرموقة Foreign Affairs.
مستشار وزراء البترول

حصل المهنا على الدكتوراه في الدراسات الدولية من أمريكا، وعمل أستاذاً في جامعة الملك سعود. وفي العام 1989 انتقل إلى وزارة الطاقة مستشاراً للوزير ولا يزال حتى اليوم، ولقد عمل مع 4 وزراء.
شارك في مئات المؤتمرات الدولية ونشر دراسات عديدة باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية، وفي العام 2024 كرّمته جامعة الملك سعود بإنشاء كرسي خاص لاسمه.

وحققت النسخة الإنجليزية التي أطلقها المهنا مع جامعة كولومبيا في نيويورك انتشاراً واسعاً، واعتمدته بعض الجامعات الغربية مرجعاً أكاديمياً.
الكتاب، الذي يعد أول إصدار من جامعة أمريكية يؤلفه سعودي في مجال البترول، يتناول محطات مفصلية في تاريخ الصناعة النفطية والسياسة العالمية، من أبرزها انهيار الأسعار عام 1986، والغزو العراقي للكويت 1990، ومؤتمر أوبك في جاكرتا 1997، والأزمة الاقتصادية العالمية 2008، وصولاً إلى التحولات الراهنة في أسواق الطاقة.
قادة السوق النفطية
ويركز المؤلف على أدوار قادة السوق النفطية، من رؤساء دول ووزراء ورؤساء شركات، محللاً قراراتهم ومواقفهم السياسية والإعلامية وتأثيرها المباشر في الأسواق. ويسلط الضوء على الدور السعودي خلال الأعوام الأخيرة، مؤكداً أن المملكة رسخت حضورها بقرارات عقلانية وحاسمة في مواجهة الأزمات، ومنها أزمة كورونا 2020 وما تبعها من تحديات مالية.
ويفند الكتاب عدداً من الطروحات الغربية، مثل الحديث عن مؤامرات نفطية بين الرياض وواشنطن في الثمانينات، مؤكداً أن صناعة القرار النفطي أعمق من تلك التفسيرات المبسطة. يجمع كتاب «قادة النفط» بين السياسة والاقتصاد والطاقة في قراءة تحليلية معمقة، ويقدم صورة شاملة عن توازنات السوق العالمية ودور السعودية المحوري في صياغة مستقبل الطاقة.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Muhanna launched the Arabic version of his book “
Oil Leaders,” published by Dar Tashkeel and translated by Ahmed Al-Tuwaim, coinciding with the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025.
The book was released in English in 2022 and has been praised by many officials and global energy experts, nominated for important awards, and considered by some American universities as a reference in energy and Middle Eastern issues.
It has been reviewed by numerous global media outlets, including the Financial Times, Bloomberg News, and the prestigious international journal Foreign Affairs.
Advisor to Oil Ministers
Al-Muhanna obtained his PhD in International Studies from the United States and worked as a professor at King Saud University. In 1989, he moved to the Ministry of Energy as an advisor to the minister and has remained there to this day, having worked with four ministers.
He has participated in hundreds of international conferences and published numerous studies in both Arabic and English. In 2024, King Saud University honored him by establishing a special chair in his name.
Milestones in the Oil Industry History
The English version launched by Al-Muhanna in collaboration with Columbia University in New York achieved wide dissemination, and some Western universities adopted it as an academic reference.
The book, which is the first publication from an American university authored by a Saudi in the field of petroleum, discusses pivotal moments in the history of the oil industry and global politics, including the price collapse in 1986, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the OPEC conference in Jakarta in 1997, the global economic crisis in 2008, and the current transformations in energy markets.
Leaders of the Oil Market
The author focuses on the roles of oil market leaders, including heads of states, ministers, and company presidents, analyzing their decisions and political and media stances and their direct impact on the markets. He highlights the Saudi role in recent years, emphasizing that the Kingdom has solidified its presence with rational and decisive decisions in the face of crises, including the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 and the subsequent financial challenges.
The book refutes several Western narratives, such as the discussions about oil conspiracies between Riyadh and Washington in the 1980s, asserting that the oil decision-making process is deeper than those simplified interpretations. The book “Oil Leaders” combines politics, economics, and energy in a deep analytical reading, providing a comprehensive picture of global market balances and Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in shaping the future of energy.
