The education departments have assigned school guards the direct responsibility of managing incidents and security and behavioral issues that may occur in schools, as well as taking the necessary actions to address them. The guards have also been tasked with allowing civil defense and ambulance teams to enter the building when needed.
The Hail Education Administration has expanded the scope of school guards' duties to include pivotal roles in protecting the educational environment and enhancing aspects of security and safety within educational institutions, in line with the Ministry of Education's efforts to provide a safe school environment that contributes to supporting the educational process.
According to the instructions, the guard's work begins before the school staff arrives by opening the doors and welcoming students, and he closes them after ensuring that the building is free of all employees and students. His daily tasks also include guarding the building and its contents, organizing traffic in front of the entrances, and regulating the process of entry and exit so that no one is allowed to enter or leave during official hours without an official permit, in addition to monitoring cleaning and maintenance work, and ensuring that doors and windows are closed and electricity is turned off at the end of the day.
Among the most prominent tasks assigned to the guards is to manage incidents and security and behavioral issues within the school, taking the necessary legal actions to address them immediately, while notifying the school administration or relevant authorities when needed. This aims to enhance readiness and the ability to deal with emergency situations quickly and effectively.
The instructions also included clear roles for the guards in the event of incidents or fires, requiring them to: activate alarm systems and immediately contact civil defense and firefighting services, shut off gas sources, disconnect electricity, stop power sources during incidents, guide staff and students to exits and gather them in designated areas, assist in moving students away from danger zones, participate in firefighting using extinguishing equipment, allow civil defense and ambulance teams to enter the building when needed, and remain with rescue teams until the emergency situation is resolved.
