The newspaper "Okaz" learned that the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development has been granted the authority to determine the financial compensation for the work of companions in the private sector, as part of the powers granted to the minister.
The Council of Ministers had approved the regulation of the work of companions for expatriate workers in the Kingdom, and the expansion of economic activities and professions, in accordance with the regulations in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The decision includes determining the financial compensation for the work of companions for expatriate workers in the Kingdom, in agreement with the Ministry of Finance and the Center for Non-Oil Revenue Development, such that the total amount collected for each companion working in the labor market is equal to the financial compensation set for expatriate workers in the private sector.
Previously, the royal decree stipulated that the work of companions should be in various qualified specialties and fields, and that there should be a need for their work in cases where the work of companions serves as an alternative to recruitment and complies with the regulations of the Nitaqat program, and that the employer meets all the specific conditions for recruitment.
Additionally, all requirements related to practicing work must also be met, and they must pass the required competency tests for practicing the profession according to government regulations. The work of companions is limited to spouses and the male guardian of the working woman only, and it must be demonstrated that positions cannot be filled by Saudi men and women according to the lists available at the Ministry of Resources, along with any other conditions set by the ministry for the work of companions.
