The Ministry of Education has specified the procedures for dealing with students who are absent with or without an excuse during the current academic year.
It clarified in the Guide to Conduct and Attendance Rules in public education schools that a student who has repeated absences with an acceptable excuse, whether the days of absence are consecutive or separate, will be dealt with according to several procedures; including contacting the guardian on the same day through a text message or phone call to inquire about the reason for the absence, referring the student to the student counselor to provide appropriate support and educational services, and studying the case if necessary and summoning the guardian. An in-person meeting will be held with the guardian to inform them of the consequences of their child's absence and to evaluate the educational services and the remedial plan provided for the student, updating it as necessary if the absence reaches 3 days. If the absence reaches 5 days and the guardian does not comply with the educational plan, the student will be referred to the student guidance committee, and an awareness session will be organized with the guardian to emphasize the importance of adhering to the educational and remedial plans. If there is suspicion of the student being neglected, the school will communicate with the relevant authorities to implement what is stated in the Child Protection System and the Abuse Prevention System, and notify the Education Administration if the absence reaches 10 days. The school will take the necessary legal actions in coordination and follow-up with the relevant authorities regarding the actions taken for the referred cases and the continuity of providing educational services without causing any interruption.
As for dealing with students who are absent without an excuse (3 days), the procedures involve contacting the guardian to inquire about the reason for the absence and referring the student to the student counselor to study the case if the absence continues, summoning the guardian, and holding an in-person meeting with them to inform them of the consequences of their child's absence and to evaluate the educational services and the remedial plan provided for the student, updating it as necessary, and obtaining a written commitment from the student and the guardian to adhere to the presented plan and continue providing educational services to the student and monitoring their case. If the absence is 5 days, the guardian will be summoned to discuss the reasons for the absence and the student will be referred to the student guidance committee, and a meeting will be held to review the educational and remedial plan provided for the student, updating it as necessary, continuing to provide educational services to the student, and monitoring their case while notifying the guardian of the consequences of their child's continued absence. If the absence reaches 10 days, the school will communicate with the relevant authorities to implement what is stated in the Child Protection System and the Abuse Prevention System and their executive regulations, while notifying the Education Administration of this and following up on the procedures and coordination by the school after taking the necessary legal actions with the relevant authorities regarding the actions taken for the referred cases, ensuring the continuity of providing educational services without causing any interruption. If the days of absence are consecutive for 3 days or more, the school will communicate with the relevant authorities regarding the implementation of what is stated in the Child Protection System and the Abuse Prevention System and their executive regulations.
