حقّقت محافظة العُلا إنجازاً دولياً جديداً يبرز صفاء سمائها ونقائها، باختيار صورة فلكية التُقطت في المحافظة لتكون «صورة اليوم الفلكية» من قبل وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية «ناسا»، ضمن أبرز الصور الفلكية العالمية.
ووثقت الصورة وهجاً أخضر لشهاب يخترق عنقود «الثريا» النجمي في لقطة تعريض ضوئي استمرّت لمدة ساعة، في مشهد يرسّخ مكانة العُلا بصفتها وجهة عالمية لرصد النجوم والتصوير الفلكي.
ونشرت «ناسا» الصورة في 25 أغسطس الجاري تحت عنوان «الشهاب والعنقود النجمي»، لتسجّل بذلك أول ظهور لصورة ملتقطة من العُلا على منصاتها، في إنجاز غير مسبوق يسلّط الضوء على تفرد سماء العُلا المظلمة.
ويعود الفضل في هذا الإنجاز إلى دعم «منارة العُلا»، الجهة المعنية بالحفاظ على البيئة الفلكية النقية للمنطقة وتعزيز مكانتها العالمية في استكشاف السماء والتصوير الفلكي.
والتُقطت الصورة بين موقعي «الحِجر» المسجّل ضمن قائمة التراث العالمي لليونسكو، و«محمية الغراميل» الطبيعية، وهما الموقعان الوحيدان في دول الخليج الحاصلان على تصنيف «السماء المظلمة» المرموق من قبل منظمة «دارك سكاي» العالمية.
وتتميّز سماء العُلا الليلية بصفاء استثنائي جعلها تُصنّف ضمن أفضل 5% من مواقع الرصد الفلكي على مستوى العالم من حيث شدة الظلام وانعدام التلوث الضوئي، ما يجعلها من أبرز الوجهات لعشّاق النجوم والسياحة الفلكية، ويجسّد فرادة مشهدها الليلي الذي لا مثيل له.

The governorate of Al-Ula has achieved a new international accomplishment that highlights the clarity and purity of its skies, with a celestial image taken in the governorate being chosen as the "Astronomy Picture of the Day" by the American space agency NASA, among the most prominent global astronomical images.
The image captured a green meteor streaking through the "Pleiades" star cluster in a long exposure shot that lasted for an hour, in a scene that solidifies Al-Ula's status as a global destination for stargazing and astronomical photography.
NASA published the image on August 25 under the title "The Meteor and the Star Cluster," marking the first appearance of a photo taken from Al-Ula on its platforms, in an unprecedented achievement that highlights the uniqueness of Al-Ula's dark sky.
This achievement is credited to the support of "Al-Ula Lighthouse," the entity responsible for preserving the region's pristine astronomical environment and enhancing its global standing in sky exploration and astronomical photography.
The photo was taken between the sites of "Al-Hijr," which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the "Al-Gharamil" natural reserve, the only two locations in the Gulf countries that have received the prestigious "Dark Sky" designation from the international organization "Dark Sky."
