غيّب الموت أمس (الأحد) الفريق الركن سلطان بن عادي المطيري، أحد القيادات العسكرية البارزة في السعودية، إذ شغل خلال مسيرته مناصب مهمة بينها نائب رئيس هيئة الأركان العامة وقائد القوات البرية، وأسهم في تطوير جاهزية القوات المسلحة.
وبحسب المعلومات المتوفرة عن الفقيد، فقد بدأ مسيرته العسكرية بعد حصوله على شهادة الثانوية من المدرسة السعودية في المربع عام 1368هـ، ليقرر الالتحاق بالمجال العسكري، ويتخرج في كلية الملك عبدالعزيز الحربية بتاريخ 10/ 6/ 1378هـ.
ويُعد المطيري من الضباط الذين شاركوا في قيادة القوات السعودية في مهمات وطنية، ونال عدة أوسمة وميداليات تقديراً لخدمته. كما كان له دور قيادي في حرب الخليج الثانية عام 1991 ضمن قيادة القوات المشتركة العربية، إذ أشرف على تنظيم وإدارة العمليات في مسرح العمليات الشرقي.
وخلال مسيرته المهنية، تولى قيادة القوات البرية الملكية السعودية برتبة فريق ركن عام 1996، كما عمل معلماً في مدرسة الدفاع الجوي ثم قائداً لجناح فيها، قبل أن يتم تعيينه نائباً لرئيس هيئة الأركان العامة، وهو المنصب الذي استمر فيه حتى تقاعده عام 2007.
Yesterday (Sunday), death took away Lieutenant General Sultan bin Adi Al-Mutairi, one of the prominent military leaders in Saudi Arabia. Throughout his career, he held important positions, including Deputy Chief of General Staff and Commander of the Ground Forces, and contributed to the development of the armed forces' readiness.
According to available information about the deceased, he began his military career after obtaining his high school diploma from the Saudi school in Al-Murabba in the year 1368 AH, deciding to join the military field, and graduated from King Abdulaziz Military Academy on 10/6/1378 AH.
Al-Mutairi is considered one of the officers who participated in leading Saudi forces in national missions and received several medals and honors in recognition of his service. He also played a leadership role in the Gulf War in 1991 as part of the Arab Joint Forces Command, overseeing the organization and management of operations in the eastern theater of operations.
During his professional career, he commanded the Royal Saudi Ground Forces with the rank of Major General in 1996, and he also worked as a teacher at the Air Defense School before becoming a wing commander there, before being appointed as Deputy Chief of General Staff, a position he held until his retirement in 2007.
