انتخبت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة المندوب الدائم للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الأمم المتحدة السفير الدكتور عبدالعزيز بن محمد الواصل، بصفته أحد نواب رئيس الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثمانين، ممثلاً للمجموعة الآسيوية.
ويأتي هذا الانتخاب في إطار ما تحظى به المملكة من مكانة رفيعة في المجتمع الدولي، وثقة الدول الأعضاء في الدور الفاعل الذي تضطلع به الدبلوماسية السعودية في دعم الأمن والسلم الدوليين، وتعزيز التعاون متعدد الأطراف.
ويُعدُّ السفير الواصل من الكفاءات الوطنية البارزة في العمل الدبلوماسي، حيث يتمتع بسجل مهني حافل في تمثيل المملكة في العديد من المحافل الإقليمية والدولية، ويسهم من خلال مناصبه في تعزيز حضور المملكة في المنظمات الدولية.
ويجسد هذا الاختيار حرص المملكة العربية السعودية على تعزيز مشاركتها الفاعلة في منظومة الأمم المتحدة، ودعم جهودها في معالجة التحديات الدولية، وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة، بما ينسجم مع أهداف رؤية المملكة 2030.
The United Nations General Assembly elected the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel, as one of the Vice Presidents of the General Assembly in its eightieth session, representing the Asian group.
This election comes within the framework of the Kingdom's esteemed position in the international community and the trust of member states in the active role played by Saudi diplomacy in supporting international peace and security and enhancing multilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Al-Wasel is considered one of the prominent national competencies in diplomatic work, as he has an extensive professional record representing the Kingdom in numerous regional and international forums, contributing through his positions to enhancing the Kingdom's presence in international organizations.
This selection embodies the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing its active participation in the United Nations system and supporting its efforts to address international challenges and achieve sustainable development, in line with the goals of Vision 2030.
