The medical staff at King Abdullah Medical City in the holy capital brought back the pulse of a pilgrim after his heart stopped while performing the Tawaf of arrival. However, his pilgrimage did not stop as the doctors told him: “With God’s permission, you will complete your Hajj… God has written life for you.”
The phrases emphasize the depth of the health message that Saudi Arabia provides to the guests of the Merciful, blending humanity with specialization, mercy with knowledge, and dedication with readiness. The swift intervention by the urgent healthcare system at King Abdullah Medical City in the holy capital played a crucial role in saving the life of the pilgrim, who suffered a sudden collapse after a long struggle with severe chronic heart muscle weakness, leading to repeated heart stoppages, putting his life at risk.
The fall of the Yemeni pilgrim occurred during the Tawaf, as he appeared to be moving slowly around the Kaaba, his chest tightened, his heart rhythm became erratic, and he collapsed unconscious. The medical teams provided primary care and quickly transported him, receiving him as a critical emergency case. The specialized medical team began a precise race against time and successfully conducted urgent tests that revealed severe regurgitation of the mitral valve and a severe disturbance in the heart's electrical conduction system, causing the heart to stop multiple times. With high medical efficiency, it was decided to perform an advanced repair of the valve using a catheter and a Mitral Clip, in addition to implanting a pacemaker to compensate for the electrical malfunction and restore regular heartbeats.
The story of the Yemeni pilgrim did not end there; once his health stabilized and he regained consciousness, his tired voice rose, asking sadly: “Will I complete my Hajj? Or is it written for me to stop here?”… Words that came from a desperate heart, unaware that the moment of relief was closer than he imagined. With a tone of reassurance and a sense of responsibility, the medical team told him: “With God’s permission, you will complete your Hajj… God has written life for you.”
