Scientific studies discussed in the second session of the fifth annual international conference of the King Salman Global Center for the Arabic Language recommended expanding Arabic blogs to include various Saudi and Arabic dialects, developing specialized Arabic measurement standards for pragmatic competence, and conducting precise adjustments of artificial intelligence models on data from Arabic dialects, while enhancing the integration between human expertise and smart tools in analyzing the Arabic language and culture.
One of the studies addressed the ability of global and Arabic large language models to understand proverbs, idiomatic expressions, and Arabic cultural concepts. It showed that the differences between the models are more pronounced in understanding proverbs and idiomatic expressions, while their performance is closer in interpreting direct cultural vocabulary.
Another study examined the representation of the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy and its structural rules, particularly the Thuluth and Naskh scripts, in generative artificial intelligence environments. It recommended establishing a specialized laboratory for digital identity and Kharazmi calligraphy, a digital repository for patterns and decorations, and developing an Arabic language-visual model dedicated to Arabic calligraphy. A third study addressed the pragmatic competence of artificial intelligence models in interpreting Najdi Arabic by testing ChatGPT's ability to understand 51 commonly used religious expressions in everyday Najdi discourse. It showed variability in its performance in understanding certain functions related to specific social and cultural contexts, confirming the potential to benefit from the models in the initial stages of analysis, with the necessity of reviewing their linguistic outputs before adopting them.
