The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that targeting health facilities and civilian infrastructure, as well as the continued loss of civilian lives, including women and children, constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
The ministers clarified, in a joint statement, that the continuation of these violations undermines international and regional efforts aimed at implementing the second phase of the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, threatens the political process, and deepens the humanitarian catastrophe in the region, stressing that the protection of civilians, medical facilities, and workers in the health and humanitarian sectors, as well as ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian and relief assistance, are legal obligations that must not be violated.
Violation of international law
The statement affirmed that what is happening in Gaza is inseparable from the assaults by settlers in the occupied West Bank, the expansion of settlements, and unilateral measures in occupied Jerusalem, considering that these practices undermine the two-state solution and violate international law and United Nations resolutions.
Achieving just peace
The ministers called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to take practical measures to compel Israel to fulfill its legal obligations and hold accountable those responsible for the violations, contributing to the protection of civilians, completing the implementation of the agreement, and achieving a permanent ceasefire.
The statement also reiterated the eight countries' rejection of any attempts to annex the occupied Palestinian territories, impose Israeli sovereignty over them, or forcibly displace Palestinians, affirming that achieving a just and comprehensive peace requires launching a political process that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
