ارتفع عدد السعوديات اللاتي يتولين حالياً مناصب سفيرات للمملكة إلى سبع سفيرات، بعد أداء أسيل سلطان الشهيل القسم سفيرةً لخادم الحرمين الشريفين لدى مملكة السويد، وسفيرةً غير مقيمة لدى جمهورية آيسلندا؛ لتتسع بذلك خريطة الحضور النسائي السعودي في العمل الدبلوماسي.
حضور السعوديات
وتمثل السفيرات السعوديات المملكة لدى الولايات المتحدة وكندا وبولندا وفنلندا وإسبانيا والسويد، إضافة إلى بعثة المملكة لدى الاتحاد الأوروبي والجمعية الأوروبية للطاقة الذرية، إلى جانب اعتمادات غير مقيمة لدى دول أخرى.
ولا تقتصر دلالة التعيينات على ارتفاع العدد، بل تمتد إلى أهمية المواقع التي تتولاها السفيرات؛ إذ تشمل عواصم سياسية مؤثرة، إضافة إلى بعثة دبلوماسية لدى الاتحاد الأوروبي والجمعية الأوروبية للطاقة الذرية.
ريما الأولى
وبدأت مرحلة حضور المرأة السعودية على مستوى السفراء في فبراير 2019، بتعيين الأميرة ريما بنت بندر بن سلطان سفيرةً لخادم الحرمين الشريفين لدى الولايات المتحدة، لتصبح أول امرأة سعودية تتولى منصب سفيرة في تاريخ المملكة.
وتتولى الأميرة ريما واحدة من أبرز البعثات السعودية في الخارج، في ظل أهمية العلاقات الإستراتيجية بين الرياض وواشنطن. وسبقت تجربتها الدبلوماسية خبرات في القطاع الخاص والرياضة وتمكين المرأة والعمل العام.
آمال المعلمي في النرويج وكندا
وفي عام 2020، أصبحت آمال يحيى المعلمي ثاني سفيرة سعودية بعد تعيينها لدى النرويج، قبل انتقالها في نوفمبر 2023 لتولي منصب سفيرة المملكة لدى كندا، وتمتلك المعلمي خبرات في التعليم والحوار والمنظمات الدولية وحقوق الإنسان.
الشهوان سفيرة في بولندا
أما إيناس أحمد الشهوان، فتتولى حالياً منصب سفيرة المملكة لدى بولندا، بعد أن مثّلت المملكة سابقاً لدى السويد. وتعد الشهوان من الكفاءات التي تدرجت مهنياً داخل وزارة الخارجية، وتولت عدداً من المهمات الدبلوماسية والإدارية.
نسرين في فنلندا
وتمثل نسرين حمد الشبل المملكة لدى فنلندا، إضافة إلى اعتمادها سفيرةً غير مقيمة لدى إستونيا ولاتفيا. ويعني الاعتماد غير المقيم أن السفيرة تمثل المملكة لدى أكثر من دولة، مع بقاء مقر عملها الأساسي في دولة واحدة؛ لذلك لا تُحتسب هذه الاعتمادات سفيرات إضافيات.
الجديع مابين الاتحاد الأوروبي والطاقة الذرية
وفي بروكسل، تتولى هيفاء عبدالرحمن الجديع منصب سفيرة ورئيسة بعثة المملكة لدى الاتحاد الأوروبي والجمعية الأوروبية للطاقة الذرية، وهو موقع يرتبط بالعلاقات السعودية الأوروبية والعمل الدبلوماسي متعدد الأطراف.
الأميره هيفاء في إسبانيا
وتشغل الأميرة هيفاء بنت عبدالعزيز آل مقرن منصب سفيرة المملكة لدى إسبانيا، وسفيرة غير مقيمة لدى إمارة أندورا، بعد تجربة سابقة مندوبةً دائمةً للمملكة لدى منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة «اليونسكو». كما عملت في وزارة الاقتصاد والتخطيط وبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي.
بين السويد وآيسلندا أسيل الشهيل
وانضمت أسيل سلطان الشهيل أخيراً إلى القائمة سفيرةً لدى السويد، وسفيرةً غير مقيمة لدى آيسلندا، بعد مسيرة في وزارة الخارجية والعمل الدبلوماسي، ومشاركتها في عدد من الملفات الدولية.
تخصصات متنوعة وخبرات طويلة
وتظهر السير المهنية للسفيرات تنوعاً في التخصصات والخبرات، يشمل الاقتصاد والتعليم وحقوق الإنسان والرياضة والمنظمات الدولية والتنمية والعمل البحثي، ما يعكس استفادة الدبلوماسية السعودية من الكفاءات الوطنية في تخصصات متعددة. وخلال سبعة أعوام، انتقل حضور السعوديات على مستوى السفراء من سفيرة واحدة عام 2019 إلى سبع سفيرات في 2026، كما اتسع من سفارة ثنائية واحدة إلى حضور في سفارات بأمريكا الشمالية وأوروبا، إضافة إلى بعثة المملكة لدى الاتحاد الأوروبي، في مؤشر على تنامي مشاركة المرأة السعودية في تمثيل المملكة وإدارة علاقاتها الدولية.
الثقفي لـ«عكاظ»: المرأة السعودية عززت الحضور الدبلوماسي
أوضح السفير السابق عصام عابد الثقفي، لـ«عكاظ»، أن المملكة شهدت خلال السنوات الماضية تحولاً تاريخياً في مكانة المرأة، إذ أصبح تمكينها ركيزة أساسية في مسيرة التنمية وصنع القرار، بعد أن أثبتت كفاءتها في سوق العمل وتولت مناصب قيادية في القطاعين الحكومي والخاص، ودخلت مجالات نوعية كانت مشاركتها فيها محدودة سابقاً، من بينها التقنية والطيران والأمن والقضاء والاستثمار وريادة الأعمال. وأكد أن العمل الدبلوماسي يُعد أحد أبرز نماذج هذا التحول؛ إذ أصبحت المرأة السعودية سفيرة في عدد من العواصم، ودبلوماسية في وزارة الخارجية وسفارات المملكة، وعضواً في الوفود الرسمية المشاركة في المؤتمرات والمحافل الدولية، إلى جانب تمثيل المملكة في المنظمات الدولية والمشاركة في المفاوضات وصياغة المواقف الرسمية بما يخدم مصالحها. وأشار الثقفي إلى أن حضور المرأة في السلك الدبلوماسي أسهم في تعزيز صورة المملكة الحديثة، التي تجمع بين الاعتزاز بالهوية والانفتاح على العالم، وتغيير كثير من الصور النمطية عن المرأة السعودية، متوقعاً اتساع هذا الدور خلال المرحلة القادمة، بما ينسجم مع مستهدفات رؤية السعودية 2030، التي تنظر إلى المرأة بوصفها شريكاً أساسياً في بناء مستقبل المملكة.
The number of Saudi women currently holding ambassadorial positions for the Kingdom has risen to seven ambassadors, following Asil Sultan Al-Suhail's oath as the ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Kingdom of Sweden and as a non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Iceland; thus expanding the map of Saudi women's presence in diplomatic work.
Saudi Women's Presence
Saudi female ambassadors represent the Kingdom in the United States, Canada, Poland, Finland, Spain, and Sweden, in addition to the Kingdom's mission to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, along with non-resident accreditations in other countries.
The significance of these appointments extends beyond the increase in numbers to the importance of the positions held by the ambassadors; they include influential political capitals, in addition to a diplomatic mission to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community.
Rima the First
The phase of Saudi women's presence at the ambassadorial level began in February 2019, with the appointment of Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan as the ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States, becoming the first Saudi woman to hold the position of ambassador in the Kingdom's history.
Princess Reema heads one of the most prominent Saudi missions abroad, given the importance of the strategic relations between Riyadh and Washington. Her diplomatic experience is preceded by expertise in the private sector, sports, women's empowerment, and public work.
Amal Al-Muallimi in Norway and Canada
In 2020, Amal Yahya Al-Muallimi became the second Saudi female ambassador after her appointment to Norway, before moving in November 2023 to take up the position of the Kingdom's ambassador to Canada. Al-Muallimi has expertise in education, dialogue, international organizations, and human rights.
Al-Shahwan Ambassador in Poland
Currently, Inas Ahmed Al-Shahwan holds the position of the Kingdom's ambassador to Poland, after previously representing the Kingdom in Sweden. Al-Shahwan is considered one of the competencies that have progressed professionally within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having undertaken several diplomatic and administrative missions.
Nasreen in Finland
Nasreen Hamad Al-Shibl represents the Kingdom in Finland, in addition to her accreditation as a non-resident ambassador to Estonia and Latvia. Non-resident accreditation means that the ambassador represents the Kingdom in more than one country while maintaining her primary workplace in one country; therefore, these accreditations are not counted as additional ambassadors.
Al-Jadiah between the European Union and Atomic Energy
In Brussels, Haifa Abdulrahman Al-Jadiah holds the position of ambassador and head of the Kingdom's mission to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, a position linked to Saudi-European relations and multilateral diplomatic work.
Princess Haifa in Spain
Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz Al-Muqrin serves as the Kingdom's ambassador to Spain and as a non-resident ambassador to the Principality of Andorra, following a previous experience as the Kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). She has also worked in the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the United Nations Development Programme.
Between Sweden and Iceland: Asil Al-Suhail
Asil Sultan Al-Suhail has recently joined the list as the ambassador to Sweden and a non-resident ambassador to Iceland, after a career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic work, participating in several international files.
Diverse Specializations and Long Experiences
The professional profiles of the ambassadors show a diversity in specializations and experiences, including economics, education, human rights, sports, international organizations, development, and research work, reflecting the benefit of Saudi diplomacy from national competencies in multiple fields. Over seven years, the presence of Saudi women at the ambassadorial level has increased from one ambassador in 2019 to seven ambassadors in 2026, expanding from one bilateral embassy to representation in embassies in North America and Europe, in addition to the Kingdom's mission to the European Union, indicating the growing participation of Saudi women in representing the Kingdom and managing its international relations.
Al-Thuqafi to "Okaz": Saudi Women Have Strengthened Diplomatic Presence
Former ambassador Essam Abed Al-Thuqafi explained to "Okaz" that the Kingdom has witnessed a historical transformation in the status of women over the past years, as their empowerment has become a fundamental pillar in the development and decision-making process, after they proved their competencies in the labor market and held leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. They have entered qualitative fields where their participation was previously limited, including technology, aviation, security, judiciary, investment, and entrepreneurship. He emphasized that diplomatic work is one of the most prominent examples of this transformation; Saudi women have become ambassadors in several capitals, diplomats in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kingdom's embassies, and members of official delegations participating in international conferences and forums, in addition to representing the Kingdom in international organizations and participating in negotiations and formulating official positions that serve its interests. Al-Thuqafi pointed out that the presence of women in the diplomatic corps has contributed to enhancing the image of the modern Kingdom, which combines pride in identity with openness to the world, and changing many stereotypes about Saudi women, expecting this role to expand in the coming phase, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which views women as a key partner in building the future of the Kingdom.
