رحّب المندوب الدائم للمملكة لدى الأمم المتحدة السفير الدكتور عبدالعزيز الواصل بإطلاق المؤشر العالمي لمرونة قطاع خدمات المياه والصرف الصحي والنظافة (GWSRI)، خلال مشاركته في الفعالية التي نظّمتها اليونيسف وشركاؤها في مقر الأمم المتحدة بنيويورك، وأشاد بجهود المنظمة وشركائها في تطوير هذا المؤشر.
وأكد الواصل في كلمة المملكة أن تعزيز مرونة أنظمة المياه بات ضرورة ملحة في ظل تحديات تغيّر المناخ وشحّ الموارد والأزمات المتزايدة. وأشار إلى أن الأمن المائي يمثل أولوية وطنية للمملكة ضمن مستهدفات رؤية 2030.
وأوضح أن الاستثمار في البنية التحتية والابتكار والتخطيط الاستباقي يسهم في استدامة خدمات المياه ورفع كفاءتها، وشدد على أهمية التعاون الدولي وتبادل الخبرات وبناء الشراكات لدعم الأمن المائي وتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, welcomed the launch of the Global Water and Sanitation Resilience Index (GWSRI) during his participation in the event organized by UNICEF and its partners at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and praised the efforts of the organization and its partners in developing this index.
Al-Wasil affirmed in his speech on behalf of the Kingdom that enhancing the resilience of water systems has become an urgent necessity in light of the challenges posed by climate change, resource scarcity, and increasing crises. He pointed out that water security is a national priority for the Kingdom within the targets of Vision 2030.
He explained that investment in infrastructure, innovation, and proactive planning contributes to the sustainability of water services and enhances their efficiency, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and building partnerships to support water security and achieve sustainable development goals.
