أكدت المملكة العربية السعودية التزامها بالسعي نحو تحقيق الهدف السادس من أهداف التنمية المستدامة؛ من خلال تطبيق نهج الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد المائية، ورفع كفاءة الخدمات، وتعزيز الأمن المائي، والاستفادة من التقنيات الحديثة والابتكار في إدارة الموارد المائية.
جاء ذلك خلال مشاركة المملكة في المنتدى السياسي رفيع المستوى للتنمية المستدامة بمقر الأمم المتحدة في مدينة نيويورك، والذي حظي بمشاركة واسعة من الدول الأعضاء والمنظمات الدولية والمؤسسات التنموية؛ لمناقشة التقدم المحرز في تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة وتسريع الجهود العالمية لتحقيق أجندة 2030.
واستعرض وكيل وزارة البيئة والمياه والزراعة للمياه الدكتور عبدالعزيز الشيباني، خلال مشاركته في الجلسة المخصصة لمراجعة التقدم المحرز في الهدف السادس، جهود المملكة في تطوير قطاع المياه وتعزيز استدامته، مشيرًا إلى أن المملكة حققت تقدمًا ملموسًا في إدارة قطاع المياه، وتوسيع خدمات المياه والصرف الصحي، وتعزيز الحوكمة المؤسسية للقطاع، بما يُسهم في رفع الكفاءة على طول سلسلة الإمداد، وتحقيق الاستدامة طويلة المدى للموارد المائية.
وسلّط الدكتور الشيباني الضوء على المبادرات الدولية التي أطلقتها المملكة لدعم التعاون الدولي في قطاع المياه، وفي مقدمتها المنظمة العالمية للمياه؛ التي تهدف إلى تعزيز التعاون وتبادل الخبرات وتسريع الحلول المستدامة لمواجهة التحديات المائية على المستوى العالمي، إضافةً إلى المركز الدولي لأبحاث المياه الذي سيسهم في دعم البحث العلمي والابتكار وبناء القدرات.
وأكد الدكتور الشيباني، أن استضافة المملكة للمنتدى العالمي الحادي عشر للمياه في مدينة الرياض عام 2027، تمثل فرصة مهمة لتعزيز الحوار الدولي، وتحويل الالتزامات والتعهدات العالمية إلى حلول عملية قابلة للتنفيذ تسهم في تحقيق الأمن المائي والتنمية المستدامة.
وعُقد على هامش المنتدى عدد من الاجتماعات الثنائية مع مسؤولين أمميين وممثلي منظمات دولية ومؤسسات مالية وتنموية وشركاء من القطاع الخاص، جرى خلالها بحث سبل تعزيز التعاون الدولي في مجالات المياه، وتبادل الخبرات، ودعم الجهود المشتركة لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة، إضافةً إلى مناقشة التحضيرات الجارية للمنتدى العالمي الحادي عشر للمياه المقرر عقده في الرياض عام 2027.
يُذكر أن المنتدى السياسي رفيع المستوى يُعد المنصة الأممية الرئيسية لمتابعة تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة، حيث ركزت أعماله هذا العام على عددٍ من الأهداف ذات الأولوية، وفي مقدمتها الهدف السادس المعني بالمياه النظيفة وخدمات الصرف الصحي، إلى جانب تعزيز الشراكات الدولية وتبادل الخبرات وأفضل الممارسات لدعم التنمية المستدامة.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has affirmed its commitment to striving towards achieving the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals; through the application of an integrated water resources management approach, enhancing service efficiency, strengthening water security, and leveraging modern technologies and innovation in water resource management.
This came during the Kingdom's participation in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, which saw wide participation from member states, international organizations, and development institutions; to discuss the progress made in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and to accelerate global efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
The Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture for Water, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, during his participation in the session dedicated to reviewing progress on the sixth goal, showcased the Kingdom's efforts in developing the water sector and enhancing its sustainability, noting that the Kingdom has made tangible progress in managing the water sector, expanding water and sanitation services, and enhancing institutional governance of the sector, contributing to improving efficiency along the supply chain and achieving long-term sustainability of water resources.
Dr. Al-Shaibani highlighted the international initiatives launched by the Kingdom to support international cooperation in the water sector, foremost among them being the World Water Organization; which aims to enhance cooperation, exchange experiences, and accelerate sustainable solutions to face global water challenges, in addition to the International Water Research Center that will contribute to supporting scientific research, innovation, and capacity building.
Dr. Al-Shaibani confirmed that the Kingdom's hosting of the 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh in 2027 represents an important opportunity to enhance international dialogue and transform global commitments and pledges into practical, actionable solutions that contribute to achieving water security and sustainable development.
Several bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the forum with UN officials, representatives of international organizations, financial and development institutions, and partners from the private sector, during which ways to enhance international cooperation in water-related fields, exchange experiences, and support joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed, in addition to discussing the ongoing preparations for the 11th World Water Forum scheduled to be held in Riyadh in 2027.
It is noteworthy that the High-Level Political Forum is the main UN platform for monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, where this year's work focused on several priority goals, foremost among them being the sixth goal related to clean water and sanitation services, along with enhancing international partnerships and exchanging experiences and best practices to support sustainable development.
