أكّدت الدول الأعضاء في المنظمة العالمية للمياه التزامها المشترك بدعم مسيرة تطوّر المنظمة والعمل على توحيد الجهود الدولية وتعزيز التعاون والتكامل في قطاع المياه، بما يسهم في إيجاد حلول مستدامة لتحديات المياه على المستوى العالمي.
جاء ذلك، خلال الاجتماع الذي عقدته المنظمة لرؤساء وفود الدول الأعضاء الثماني المؤسسة، على هامش أعمال «أسبوع المياه السعودي»، المنعقد في جدة.
واجتمع ممثلو الدول المؤسسة السعودية، الكويت، موريتانيا، باكستان، قطر، اليونان، السنغال، وإسبانيا لاستعراض التقدم المُحرز منذ توقيع ميثاق المنظمة العالمية للمياه بالرياض في مايو 2025م، ومناقشة الأولويات، والاستعداد لعقد الجمعية العمومية الأولى للمنظمة.
وشهد الاجتماع مشاركة وفود من دول غير أعضاء، إلى جانب وكالات تابعة للأمم المتحدة، وبنوك تنمية متعددة الأطراف، وعدد من المنظمات الدولية والإقليمية، واستعرض الفريق التأسيسي للمنظمة العالمية للمياه خلال الاجتماع، التقدم المحرز للبناء المؤسسي للمنظمة وأمانتها العامة، واعتماد نموذج الحوكمة الخاص بالمنظمة ولوائحها الداخلية وأنظمتها المالية والإدارية، إلى جانب رسم إستراتيجيتها للأعوام الأربعة القادمة، التي ترتكز على أربع ركائز رئيسية هي: البحث والابتكار، والبيانات والتقارير، والسياسات والحوكمة، والتمويل والاستثمار.
وقال الفريق التأسيسي للمنظمة العالمية للمياه: «يعكس الاجتماع الالتزام المشترك للدول الأعضاء ببناء قطاع مياه عالمي أكثر قوة وتكاملاً وتنسيقاً، وخلال العام الماضي، عملنا بشكل وثيق مع الدول والشركاء لترسيخ أسس عمل المنظمة، ونتطلع معاً إلى المضي قدماً في المرحلة القادمة».
كما شهد الاجتماع كلمات لممثلي الدول الأعضاء المؤسسة، أكدوا فيها التزام دولهم المشترك بتعزيز دور المنظمة العالمية للمياه وتمكين التعاون الدولي في القطاع.
وسلطت المنظمة الضوء على مشاركتها في محافل دولية رئيسية معنية بالمياه في كل من داكار، ومدريد، ودوشنبه، وجدة، إلى جانب عدد من اللقاءات مع أصحاب المصلحة، وأسهمت هذه الجهود في تعزيز الوعي بدور المنظمة العالمية للمياه بصفتها جهة ميسِّرة ومنصة للتعاون، في ظل الزخم المتنامي تمهيداً لانعقاد الجمعية العمومية الأولى.
يذكر، أن المنظمة العالمية للمياه هي منصة دولية متعددة الأطراف تأسست بمبادرة من السعودية في سبتمبر 2023، لتكون منصة عالمية توحد جهود الدول والمنظمات في مواجهة التحديات المتزايدة في قطاع المياه.
The member states of the World Water Organization confirmed their joint commitment to support the organization's development and work towards unifying international efforts and enhancing cooperation and integration in the water sector, contributing to finding sustainable solutions to global water challenges.
This came during the meeting held by the organization for the heads of delegations of the eight founding member states, on the sidelines of the "Saudi Water Week" taking place in Jeddah.
Representatives from the founding states—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Greece, Senegal, and Spain—gathered to review the progress made since the signing of the World Water Organization Charter in Riyadh in May 2025, discuss priorities, and prepare for the organization's first General Assembly.
The meeting also witnessed the participation of delegations from non-member countries, alongside agencies from the United Nations, multilateral development banks, and several international and regional organizations. During the meeting, the founding team of the World Water Organization reviewed the progress made in the institutional building of the organization and its secretariat, the adoption of the organization's governance model, its internal regulations, and its financial and administrative systems, as well as outlining its strategy for the next four years, which is based on four main pillars: research and innovation, data and reporting, policies and governance, and financing and investment.
The founding team of the World Water Organization stated: "The meeting reflects the joint commitment of the member states to build a stronger, more integrated, and coordinated global water sector. Over the past year, we have worked closely with countries and partners to establish the foundations of the organization's work, and we look forward to moving forward together into the next phase."
The meeting also featured speeches from representatives of the founding member states, in which they affirmed their countries' joint commitment to enhancing the role of the World Water Organization and enabling international cooperation in the sector.
The organization highlighted its participation in major international forums concerned with water in Dakar, Madrid, Dushanbe, and Jeddah, along with several meetings with stakeholders. These efforts contributed to raising awareness of the role of the World Water Organization as a facilitator and a platform for cooperation, in light of the growing momentum in preparation for the first General Assembly.
It is worth noting that the World Water Organization is a multilateral international platform established at the initiative of Saudi Arabia in September 2023, to serve as a global platform unifying the efforts of countries and organizations in addressing the increasing challenges in the water sector.
