أُعيد افتتاح مطار الوجه الدولي، شمال غربي السعودية، بعد أعمال تطوير وتحديث شاملة امتدت على مدى عامين، وتُوجت باستئناف الرحلات الجوية رسمياً في 24 مايو الماضي، وانطلقت العمليات التجارية للمطار بـ5 رحلات أسبوعية مجدولة، توزعت بين 3 رحلات من الرياض، ورحلتين من جدة، بما يتناسب مع متطلبات المرحلة الحالية، واحتياجات الربط الجوي للمنطقة، مع توقعات بانطلاقة قريبة لرحلاته الدولية.
وبات مطار الوجه الدولي بعد أعمال التطوير قادراً على استقبال وتشغيل معظم الطائرات التجارية ضيقة البدن، بما في ذلك طائرات إيرباص A320، وبوينغ 737، والطائرات المائية، الأمر الذي يوفر مرونة تشغيلية تدعم التوسع المستقبلي للحركة الجوية. كما ارتفعت الطاقة الاستيعابية لصالة الركاب إلى 500 ألف مسافر سنوياً، مقارنة بـ100 ألف مسافر سابقاً، مع قدرة تشغيلية تصل إلى 330 مسافراً في الساعة خلال أوقات الذروة، عبر 4 بوابات للوصول والمغادرة.
واستلهم التصميم المعماري للمطار عناصره من الطابع العمراني لمدينة الوجه التاريخية وساحل منطقة تبوك، ليعكس هوية المنطقة ويحتفي بإرثها الثقافي. كما شملت أعمال التحديث تطوير مرافق الصالة بما يعزز تجربة المسافرين، بما في ذلك مواقف المركبات، ليستوعب المطار كذلك عمليات الطائرات المائية والمروحيات ضمن منظومة التنقل المتكاملة لوجهة «أمالا».
The Al-Wajh International Airport, located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, has been reopened after comprehensive development and modernization work that lasted for two years. This was crowned by the official resumption of flights on May 24th, with the airport's commercial operations launching with 5 scheduled weekly flights, consisting of 3 flights from Riyadh and 2 from Jeddah, in line with the current phase requirements and the air connectivity needs of the region, with expectations for the imminent launch of its international flights.
After the development work, Al-Wajh International Airport is now capable of receiving and operating most narrow-body commercial aircraft, including Airbus A320, Boeing 737, and seaplanes, providing operational flexibility that supports the future expansion of air traffic. The passenger terminal's capacity has also increased to 500,000 passengers annually, compared to 100,000 passengers previously, with an operational capacity of up to 330 passengers per hour during peak times, through 4 gates for arrivals and departures.
The architectural design of the airport draws its elements from the urban character of the historic city of Al-Wajh and the coastline of the Tabuk region, reflecting the identity of the area and celebrating its cultural heritage. The modernization work also included the development of terminal facilities to enhance the passenger experience, including vehicle parking, allowing the airport to accommodate seaplane and helicopter operations as part of the integrated mobility system for the "Amala" destination.
