ينطلق، اليوم (الإثنين)، في الرياض، مؤتمر الحطام الفضائي، الذي تنظمه وكالة الفضاء السعودية بمشاركة دولية واسعة تمثل 75 دولة حول العالم، بحضور نخبة من الخبراء وصنّاع القرار وممثلي الجهات الحكومية والمنظمات الدولية والشركات المتخصصة في قطاع الفضاء.
ويأتي انعقاد المؤتمر في إطار جهود السعودية الرامية إلى توحيد الجهود الدولية لمواجهة التحديات المتزايدة المرتبطة بالحطام الفضائي، وتعزيز استدامة الفضاء بوصفه مورداً مشتركاً للبشرية، بما يسهم في حماية الأنشطة الفضائية والبنية التحتية المدارية، ودعم نمو اقتصاد الفضاء العالمي.
ويُعقد المؤتمر بدعم من مكتب الأمم المتحدة لشؤون الفضاء الخارجي (UNOOSA)، وبالشراكة مع الاتحاد الدولي للاتصالات (ITU)؛ تأكيداً على أهمية تعزيز التعاون الدولي، وبناء أطر حوكمة فعّالة للتعامل مع مخاطر الحطام الفضائي، وضمان بيئة فضائية آمنة ومستدامة.
ويهدف المؤتمر إلى ترسيخ مكانة المملكة بصفتها محوراً عالمياً في مجال استدامة الفضاء، وجمع الخبراء والمختصين لتعزيز التنسيق الدولي حول القضايا والتحديات المرتبطة بالحطام الفضائي، إلى جانب إبراز دور وكالة الفضاء السعودية في تبني ودعم السياسات والمبادرات التي تسهم في حماية مستقبل اقتصاد الفضاء وضمان استدامته على المدى الطويل.
ويسعى المؤتمر إلى رفع مستوى الوعي العالمي بمخاطر الحطام الفضائي، وبحث التشريعات والسياسات ذات الصلة، وتعزيز البحث والابتكار، وتطوير آليات وحوكمة دولية فعّالة للتخفيف من آثار الحطام الفضائي، بما يضمن الاستخدام المسؤول والمستدام للمدارات الفضائية.
يشهد المؤتمر على مدى يومين عقد جلسات حوارية وكلمات رئيسية تناقش عدداً من المحاور، من أبرزها: استدامة الفضاء، وحماية الاقتصاد الفضائي العالمي، وتوحيد الجهود الدولية، وبناء الوعي المشترك، إضافة إلى استعراض الابتكارات والشراكات الدولية والحلول التشغيلية التي تسهم في معالجة تحديات الحطام الفضائي، والحد من مخاطره المتزايدة على الأنشطة الفضائية.
ويسلّط المؤتمر الضوء على منافسة «DebrisSolver»، التي تمثل منصة دولية لتحفيز الابتكار التطبيقي في مجال معالجة الحطام الفضائي، إذ تجمع نخبة من الخبراء والمحكّمين الدوليين لتقييم حلول مبتكرة وفق أعلى المعايير العلمية والتقنية، ودعم تحويل الأفكار البحثية إلى حلول عملية قابلة للتطبيق.
Today (Monday), the Space Debris Conference kicks off in Riyadh, organized by the Saudi Space Agency with extensive international participation representing 75 countries around the world, attended by a select group of experts, decision-makers, government representatives, international organizations, and companies specialized in the space sector.
The conference is held as part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to unify international efforts to address the growing challenges associated with space debris and to enhance the sustainability of space as a shared resource for humanity, contributing to the protection of space activities and orbital infrastructure, and supporting the growth of the global space economy.
The conference is held with the support of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), emphasizing the importance of enhancing international cooperation and building effective governance frameworks to address the risks of space debris and ensure a safe and sustainable space environment.
The conference aims to establish the Kingdom's position as a global hub for space sustainability, bringing together experts and specialists to enhance international coordination on issues and challenges related to space debris, as well as highlighting the role of the Saudi Space Agency in adopting and supporting policies and initiatives that contribute to protecting the future of the space economy and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
The conference seeks to raise global awareness of the risks of space debris, discuss related legislation and policies, promote research and innovation, and develop effective international mechanisms and governance to mitigate the impacts of space debris, ensuring the responsible and sustainable use of space orbits.
Over two days, the conference will feature panel discussions and keynote speeches addressing several key topics, including: space sustainability, protecting the global space economy, unifying international efforts, and building shared awareness, in addition to showcasing innovations, international partnerships, and operational solutions that contribute to addressing the challenges of space debris and reducing its increasing risks to space activities.
The conference highlights the "DebrisSolver" competition, which represents an international platform to stimulate applied innovation in the field of space debris management, bringing together a select group of experts and international judges to evaluate innovative solutions according to the highest scientific and technical standards, and supporting the transformation of research ideas into practical, applicable solutions.
