زار وزير الدولة عضو مجلس الوزراء رئيس مجلس إدارة هيئة تطوير محمية الإمام تركي بن عبدالله الملكية الأمير تركي بن محمد بن فهد بن عبدالعزيز، يرافقه نائب أمير منطقة حائل الأمير فيصل بن فهد بن مقرن بن عبدالعزيز، عدداً من مواقع المحمية، والتقى عدداً من أهالي المجتمع المحلي، واطّلع على أحوال مستفيدي الرعي في المنطقة، إضافة إلى زيارة عدد من المواقع التاريخية.
كما زار موقع السماء المظلمة في صحراء النفود الكبير الواقع ضمن نطاق المحمية، بعد اعتماد الجمعية الدولية للسماء المظلمة (DarkSky International)، في إنجاز وطني يُجسّد المكانة البيئية المتقدمة للمملكة، ويعكس التزامها بحماية البيئات الطبيعية النادرة وتعزيز حضورها في المبادرات البيئية الدولية.
واطّلع خلال الزيارة على الجهود العلمية والتنظيمية، التي نفذتها الهيئة للحد من التلوث الضوئي، وتطبيق المعايير الدولية المعتمدة لإدارة السماء المظلمة، بما يحافظ على الخصائص الفلكية للموقع، ويعزز استدامة النظم البيئية، ويؤهل المنطقة لتكون منصة متقدمة للسياحة الفلكية والبحث العلمي، ضمن نموذج متكامل يوازن بين الحماية البيئية والتنمية المستدامة.
وأكَّد رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة، أن هذا الإنجاز يأتي بدعم واهتمام القيادة الرشيدة في ظل ما توليه من اهتمام راسخ بحماية البيئة واستدامة الموارد الطبيعية ضمن مستهدفات رؤية المملكة 2030.
وأشار إلى أن اعتماد السماء المظلمة في صحراء النفود الكبير يعكس توجهاً وطنياً رائداً نحو تعزيز مكانة المملكة في المبادرات البيئية الدولية ويكتسب أهمية خاصة في ظل التحديات العالمية المرتبطة بالتلوث الضوئي، إذ تشير الدراسات الدولية إلى أن نحو 80% من سكان العالم يعيشون اليوم تحت سماء متأثرة بالتلوث الضوئي، ومع استمرار ارتفاع معدلاته عالمياً، تتأكد أهمية حماية المناطق الطبيعية المظلمة في المملكة بوصفها مورداً بيئياً وعلمياً وسياحياً نادراً.
ويُعد موقع السماء المظلمة في صحراء النفود الكبير الواقع ضمن نطاق محمية الإمام تركي بن عبدالله الملكية، من أكبر المواقع المعتمدة إقليمياً، إذ يمتد على مساحة تُقدَّر بنحو 13,416 كيلومتراً مربعاً، لينضم إلى أكثر من 250 منطقة حول العالم تتمتع بالحماية من التلوث الضوئي؛ مما يعزز مكانة المملكة ضمن الدول الرائدة في هذا المجال.
ويأتي اعتماد صحراء النفود الكبير للسماء المظلمة، امتداداً لجهود هيئة تطوير محمية الإمام تركي بن عبدالله الملكية في ترسيخ دور المحمية وجهة بيئية وسياحة فلكية متقدمة، ونموذجاً وطنياً يجسّد التكامل بين حماية الموارد الطبيعية وتعظيم أثرها التنموي، وتأكيداً لمكانة المملكة ضمن الدول الرائدة عالمياً في حماية السماء المظلمة في ظل وجود أكثر من 160 ألف كيلومتر مربع من الأراضي المحمية من التلوث الضوئي في 22 دولة عبر 6 قارات، بما يعزز حضور المحمية وجهة متقدمة للسياحة الفلكية والبحث العلمي.
The Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority, Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Hail Region, Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, visited several sites within the reserve, met with a number of local community members, and reviewed the conditions of grazing beneficiaries in the area, in addition to visiting several historical sites.
He also visited the Dark Sky site in the Great Nafud Desert, which is located within the reserve, following the approval of DarkSky International, in a national achievement that embodies the advanced environmental status of the Kingdom and reflects its commitment to protecting rare natural environments and enhancing its presence in international environmental initiatives.
During the visit, he reviewed the scientific and organizational efforts implemented by the authority to reduce light pollution and apply the internationally recognized standards for managing dark skies, which preserve the astronomical characteristics of the site, enhance the sustainability of ecosystems, and qualify the area to be an advanced platform for astronomical tourism and scientific research, within an integrated model that balances environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the authority emphasized that this achievement comes with the support and interest of the wise leadership, in light of its steadfast commitment to protecting the environment and sustaining natural resources as part of the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
He pointed out that the approval of the dark sky in the Great Nafud Desert reflects a pioneering national trend towards enhancing the Kingdom's status in international environmental initiatives and gains special importance in light of global challenges related to light pollution, as international studies indicate that about 80% of the world's population currently lives under a sky affected by light pollution. With the continued rise in its rates globally, the importance of protecting dark natural areas in the Kingdom as a rare environmental, scientific, and tourism resource is confirmed.
The dark sky site in the Great Nafud Desert, located within the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve, is one of the largest regionally accredited sites, extending over an area estimated at about 13,416 square kilometers, joining more than 250 areas around the world that are protected from light pollution; thus enhancing the Kingdom's status among leading countries in this field.
The accreditation of the Great Nafud Desert as a dark sky is an extension of the efforts of the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority in establishing the reserve's role as an advanced environmental and astronomical tourism destination, and a national model that embodies the integration between protecting natural resources and maximizing their developmental impact, affirming the Kingdom's status among the leading countries globally in protecting dark skies in light of the existence of more than 160,000 square kilometers of land protected from light pollution in 22 countries across 6 continents, thereby enhancing the reserve's presence as an advanced destination for astronomical tourism and scientific research.
