The office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, and the residence of the local intelligence director were subjected to a nighttime attack by drones coming "from the direction of the Iranian border," according to an official statement.

The Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region announced that "early this Monday at exactly 00:28, two explosive-laden drones of the type +Haidar-110+ were directed from the Iranian border towards the private office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the director of the protection agency in the district of Pirman in Erbil Governorate." The service added that the attacks did not result in any recorded human casualties.

The Counter-Terrorism Service condemned the attack in the strongest terms, affirming that these attacks and assaults are unacceptable in any form and that those responsible bear full responsibility for the consequences.

Iraq announced late Thursday night that it had intercepted and destroyed 3 drones that attacked the city of Erbil, while security authorities confirmed that there were no indications so far that the drones were launched from within Iraqi territory.

The head of the Security Media Cell in Iraq stated in remarks that 3 drones attacked Erbil and that the defenses managed to destroy them. He added that there are no indications that the drones were launched from inside Iraq.

While no party immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the targets that the drones were heading towards remain unclear.

The new attack has brought back to the forefront the issue of drones in Iraq, particularly in the Kurdistan Region, which has witnessed a series of attacks and targeting attempts over the past months that have affected military and civilian sites as well as vital facilities.
