The Saudi Food and Drug Authority will, starting from December 1st, take over the responsibility of issuing import permits for chemical substances listed in the second schedule of the executive regulations of the Chemical Management System, instead of the Ministry of Commerce.
The Ministry of Commerce revealed, in an urgent telegram dated November 1st, the transfer of the authority to issue import permits for chemicals traded in local markets, as well as for their export and re-export, in addition to permits for their clearance, to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority.
The ministry clarified that the transfer of authority includes chemical substances listed in the second schedule of the executive regulations of the Chemical Management System, and that the procedure will be implemented starting from December 1, 2026.
This transfer of authority is based on a decision made by the Council of Ministers issued on the 7th of Safar, 1448 AH, which stipulated assigning these powers to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, making it the competent authority for issuing permits related to the substances covered by the decision.
