The futures contracts for the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped by more than 699 points, or 1.35%, during today's (Wednesday) trading, reaching 52,594 points, coinciding with investors monitoring the results of the U.S. midterm elections and assessing their potential implications on economic and investment policies.
The futures contracts for the S&P 500 rose by 0.90%, equivalent to 69 points, reaching 7,666 points, while the futures contracts for the Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.85%, or 239 points, to 28,545 points.
The gains came amid market anticipation of the implications of Democratic control over Congress, as some Wall Street experts believe that the party's significant majority in both the House and Senate, known as the "blue wave," could exert pressure on U.S. stocks, particularly artificial intelligence companies, according to CNBC.
Healthcare stocks saw notable increases in pre-opening trading, with UnitedHealth rising by 1.4%, Molina Healthcare by 6.3%, and Centene by 4.7%, while HCA Healthcare's stock rose by 1.45%.
In the technology sector, the MAGS fund, which tracks the performance of the seven major U.S. technology stocks, increased by 0.75%, despite Tesla's stock declining by about 4% before the session opened, which limited the fund's gains.
