Gold prices in Egypt have declined during trading today, Tuesday, affected by the ongoing pressures on the yellow metal in global markets, amid increasing expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise interest rates again in December, which enhances the attractiveness of yield-generating assets and raises the opportunity cost of holding gold.
Price of Gold by Carat
According to data from the "iSaqa" platform for trading gold and jewelry online, the price of 21-carat gold reached about 6,125 Egyptian pounds, losing about 45 pounds, while the price of 24-carat gold was about 7,000 pounds. The price of 18-carat gold reached about 5,250 pounds, and the price of a gold pound reached 49,000 pounds, while the global price of an ounce was about 3,909 dollars.
Reflection of Pressures
Saeed Imbabi, the CEO of the "iSaqa" platform, stated that the decline in gold prices in the Egyptian market reflects the pressures faced by the precious metal globally, primarily due to changing expectations of U.S. monetary policy, with increasing odds of raising interest rates in December, which puts pressure on gold's attractiveness compared to yield-generating assets.
