Oil prices deepened their losses during today's trading (Monday), as Brent crude fell by more than 4%, amid market anticipation of the results of talks aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, which has entered its third consecutive day.
Brent crude futures for January 2027 fell by 4.42%, equivalent to $5.01, to $108.46 per barrel, while U.S. crude futures (NYMEX) for December dropped by 4.37%, or $4.55, to $99.60 per barrel.
The declines followed statements from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who confirmed that President Donald Trump prefers to end the war with Iran through diplomatic means, despite Washington's readiness to use military force.
In contrast, Goldman Sachs raised its oil price forecasts amid rising risks surrounding energy supplies, indicating that Brent crude could reach $140 per barrel by 2027, according to Western media outlets.
The losses in oil coincided with the decision by the OPEC+ alliance yesterday (Sunday) to keep December production targets unchanged, in line with market expectations of no additional adjustments to production policy before next year.
