The U.S. Senate approved today the appointment of Kevin Warsh as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to separately confirm his appointment as the central bank's chairman later this week.
Procedural Vote
The Senate's vote, which resulted in 51 votes in favor and 45 against, grants Warsh a 14-year term on the central bank's board. The Senate intends to conduct a procedural vote soon in preparation for the vote on Warsh's appointment to succeed Jerome Powell as the chairman of the Federal Reserve.

The approval of Warsh's appointment comes at a time when President Donald Trump continues to pressure the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, but this may become more difficult with inflation accelerating in April, particularly in fuel, food, and rental prices.
