The General Authority for Ports has launched the first Floating Storage Unit (FSU) to supply ships with fuel at the Islamic Port of Jeddah, with a total capacity of 113,000 cubic meters, in a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Energy, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the General Transport Authority, and the General Authority for Ports "Mawani". The station represents a significant step in enhancing the maritime economy of the Kingdom in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, according to the ambitious Vision 2030 of the Kingdom. The new storage unit will contribute to a qualitative shift in the logistics operations of marine fuel supply chains in the Red Sea region by improving the efficiency of bulk shipment supply, simplifying blending operations, and accelerating the loading processes of supply vessels that play a vital role in distributing fuel to passing ships, thereby enhancing the activation of the modern customs deposit area, contributing to the speed and ease of customs clearance processes for both imports and exports, and providing unprecedented flexibility for beneficiaries. The unit is equipped to store the three main types of marine fuel, which include Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO), and Marine Gas Oil (MGO). Additionally, the unit serves the company's modern fleet of fuel supply tankers, enabling it to provide its services with high efficiency, as well as supplying fuel to other licensed fuel suppliers. Registering the floating storage unit as a customs deposit area is an innovative new approach that contributes to achieving highly efficient operational processes while ensuring full customs control over the movement of goods in and out of the Kingdom.
