أعلن بنك التسويات الدولية في أحدث تقييم لحالة الاقتصاد العالمي أن التوتر التجاري والقضايا الجيوسياسية تهدد بكشف انقسامات عميقة في النظام المالي العالمي.
ويوصف بنك التسويات الدولية بأنه البنك المركزي لمسؤولي البنوك المركزية.
وقال رئيس بنك التسويات الدولية المنتهية ولايته أجوستين كارستنز: «إن الحرب التجارية التي تقودها الولايات المتحدة وغيرها من التحولات السياسية تؤدي إلى إنهاك النظام الاقتصادي الراسخ منذ فترة طويلة».
وأضاف: «إن الاقتصاد العالمي يمر بلحظة محورية بدخوله حقبة جديدة من الضبابية المتزايدة وعدم القدرة على التنبؤ، بما يختبر مدى ثقة الناس في المؤسسات، بما في ذلك البنوك المركزية».
ونشر البنك التقرير قبل أكثر من أسبوع من المهلة التي حددها الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لتطبيق الرسوم الجمركية التجارية في التاسع من يوليو، ويأتي بعد ستة أشهر من اضطرابات جيوسياسية شديدة.
وعندما سئل كارستنز عن الانتقادات التي وجهها ترمب إلى رئيس مجلس الاحتياطي الاتحادي (البنك المركزي الأمريكي) جيروم باول، والتي تضمنت وصف ترمب لباول بأنه «غبي»، لم يكثر من الانتقاد.
وقال محافظ البنك المركزي المكسيكي السابق كارستنز للصحفيين: «من المتوقع في بعض الأوقات أن يكون هناك احتكاك، أمر يكاد أن يكون مقصودا»، في إشارة إلى العلاقة بين الحكومات والبنوك المركزية.

The Bank for International Settlements announced in its latest assessment of the state of the global economy that trade tensions and geopolitical issues threaten to expose deep divisions in the global financial system.
The Bank for International Settlements is described as the central bank for central bank officials.
Outgoing BIS President Agustin Carstens said: "The trade war led by the United States and other political shifts are leading to the exhaustion of the long-established economic system."
He added: "The global economy is going through a pivotal moment as it enters a new era of increasing uncertainty and unpredictability, which tests the level of trust people have in institutions, including central banks."
The bank published the report more than a week before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for implementing trade tariffs on July 9, following six months of severe geopolitical disruptions.
When asked about Trump's criticisms of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, which included Trump calling Powell "stupid," Carstens did not offer much criticism.
Former Mexican central bank governor Carstens told reporters: "It is expected at times that there will be friction, something that is almost intended," referring to the relationship between governments and central banks.
