اتفق الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي لي جاي ميونج، والرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب على التوصل بسرعة إلى اتفاق بشأن الرسوم الجمركية وذلك في أول محادثة هاتفية بينهما، وفقاً لما ذكره مكتب لي أمس الأول (الجمعة).
وخلال المحادثة التي استمرت 20 دقيقة، هنأ ترمب لي على فوزه في الانتخابات، بينما أكد لي أن التحالف بين كوريا الجنوبية والولايات المتحدة لا يزال أساس السياسة الخارجية لسول، حسبما قالت المتحدثة الرئاسية كانج يو جونج في إفادة خطية.
ونقلت وكالة «يونهاب» للأنباء عن المكتب الرئاسي قوله: «اتفق الزعيمان على العمل من أجل التوصل بسرعة إلى اتفاق مرض للجانبين» بشأن مفاوضات الرسوم الجمركية بين كوريا الجنوبية والولايات المتحدة. مضيفا أنه «لتحقيق هذا الهدف، اتفقا على تشجيع نتيجة ملموسة في المحادثات على مستوى العمل»، وفقًا لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية (د ب أ).
وجاءت أول محادثة للرئيس لي مع ترمب بعد يومين من توليه منصبه، الذي جاء لينهي أشهراً عدة من عدم اليقين السياسي والدبلوماسي بعد إقالة الرئيس السابق يون سوك يول في شهر أبريل؛ بسبب محاولته الفاشلة لفرض الأحكام العرفية.

The South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and the American President Donald Trump agreed to quickly reach an agreement on tariffs during their first phone conversation, according to Lee's office on the day before yesterday (Friday).
During the 20-minute conversation, Trump congratulated Lee on his election victory, while Lee emphasized that the alliance between South Korea and the United States remains the foundation of Seoul's foreign policy, according to presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung in a written briefing.
The Yonhap News Agency reported the presidential office as saying: "The leaders agreed to work towards quickly reaching a mutually satisfactory agreement" regarding the tariff negotiations between South Korea and the United States. It added that "to achieve this goal, they agreed to encourage a tangible outcome in the working-level talks," according to the German news agency (dpa).
This was President Lee's first conversation with Trump two days after taking office, which came to end several months of political and diplomatic uncertainty following the ousting of former President Yoon Suk-yeol in April due to his failed attempt to impose martial law.
