Officials have announced that the U.S. Treasury Department is considering issuing a one-dollar coin featuring the image of President Donald Trump, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the country's independence.

Treasury Secretary Scott Piesen shared a post from Treasurer Brandon Beach that includes preliminary designs for the coin.

Beach posted drafts of the preliminary designs on X, accompanied by the comment: "I look forward to sharing more of them soon, once the U.S. government shutdown is over."

One of the designs shows Trump on the front side of the coin, while the reverse side features another image of him raising his fist in front of an American flag with the phrase "Fight... Fight... Fight."

This image was taken after his assassination attempt last year during his campaign.

Symbolic Designs

When asked about the coin, a spokesperson for the Treasury Department criticized what he called the "forced shutdown imposed by the radical left on our government," adding: "This first draft clearly reflects the enduring spirit of our country and our democracy, even in the face of enormous obstacles."

Congress passed legislation in 2020, signed by Trump during his first term, allowing the Treasury Department to issue one-dollar coins "with symbolic designs to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States."

The Treasury Department can mint and issue coins within a one-year period starting in January 2026.

The U.S. Congress imposes restrictions on the Treasury Department's use of images of living people in coin designs, and it is unclear whether the designs for Trump's coin will face obstacles under current laws.
