أعلن الاتحاد البريدي العالمي، اليوم، أن خدمة البريد مع الولايات المتحدة انخفضت إلى أكثر من 80%، عقب فرض واشنطن رسوماً جمركية إضافية، ما أدى إلى تعليق الخدمة بشكل كلي أو جزئي في 88 دولة.
وقال المدير العام للاتحاد ماساهيكو ميتوكي، في بيان: «إن الاتحاد يعمل على تطوير سريع لحل تقني جديد من شأنه أن يتيح استئناف نقل البريد إلى الولايات المتحدة».
إعفاء ضريبي
وأعلنت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، في أواخر يوليو الماضي، أنها ستلغي الإعفاء الضريبي على الطرود الصغيرة التي تدخل الولايات المتحدة بدءاً من 29 أغسطس الماضي.
وأثار هذا القرار سلسلة من الإعلانات من مؤسسات بريدية عدّة، من فرنسا إلى أستراليا مروراً بألمانيا وإيطاليا واليابان والهند، قالت إنها لم تعد تقبل الطرود الموجّهة إلى الولايات المتحدة، أقلّه على نحو مؤقت.
وقال الاتحاد البريدي العالمي: «إن البيانات المتبادلة بين مشغلي البريد عبر شبكته الإلكترونية أظهرت أن حركة البريد إلى الولايات المتحدة انخفضت بنسبة 81% في 29 أغسطس مقارنة بالأسبوع السابق».
التوصل لحل
وأضاف الاتحاد أن 88 شركة بريدية أبلغت الاتحاد البريدي العالمي بأنها أوقفت بعض أو كل الخدمات البريدية إلى الولايات المتحدة حتى يتم التوصل إلى حل.
وبين هذه الشركات البريد الألماني، والبريد الملكي البريطاني، ومشغلان في البوسنة والهرسك.
وتأسس الاتحاد البريدي العالمي عام 1874، ومقره العاصمة السويسرية برن، ويضم 192 دولة عضواً. يضع الاتحاد قواعد تبادل البريد الدولي، ويقدم توصيات لتحسين الخدمات.

The Universal Postal Union announced today that mail service with the United States has dropped by more than 80%, following Washington's imposition of additional tariffs, which has led to a complete or partial suspension of services in 88 countries.
Masahiko Mituki, the Director-General of the Union, stated in a release: "The Union is working on a rapid development of a new technical solution that will enable the resumption of mail transport to the United States."
Tax Exemption
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announced in late July that it would eliminate the tax exemption on small parcels entering the United States starting from August 29.
This decision triggered a series of announcements from several postal institutions, from France to Australia, including Germany, Italy, Japan, and India, stating that they would no longer accept parcels directed to the United States, at least temporarily.
The Universal Postal Union stated: "Data exchanged between postal operators through its electronic network showed that mail traffic to the United States dropped by 81% on August 29 compared to the previous week."
Reaching a Solution
The Union added that 88 postal companies have informed the Universal Postal Union that they have suspended some or all postal services to the United States until a solution is reached.
Among these companies are German Post, Royal Mail, and two operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Universal Postal Union was established in 1874, headquartered in the Swiss capital Bern, and includes 192 member countries. The Union sets the rules for international mail exchange and provides recommendations to improve services.
