وافق وزراء خارجية الاتحاد الأوروبي، اليوم، على رفع العقوبات الاقتصادية المفروضة على سورية، بحسب ما أعلنته مسؤولة السياسة الخارجية في التكتل كايا كالاس.
وقالت كالاس في منشور عبر منصة «إكس»، بعد مناقشات مع الوزراء في بروكسل: «نريد أن نساعد الشعب السوري في إعادة بناء سورية جديدة شاملة وسلمية». وأضافت: «لقد وقف الاتحاد الأوروبي دائما إلى جانب السوريين طوال السنوات الـ14 الماضية، وسنواصل القيام بذلك».
من جانبه، وجه وزير الخارجية السوري أسعد الشيباني الشكر للاتحاد الأوروبي اليوم، على رفع العقوبات الاقتصادية عن بلاده.
وقال الشيباني في منشور على منصة إكس: «نحقق مع شعبنا السوري إنجازا تاريخيا جديدا برفع عقوبات الاتحاد الأوروبي المفروضة على سورية، كل الشكر لدول الاتحاد الأوروبي، ولكل من ساهم في هذا الانتصار». وأضاف: «سيعزز هذا القرار الأمن والاستقرار والازدهار في سورية».
ويأتي هذا التحول في سياسة الاتحاد الأوروبي بعد إعلان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب الأسبوع الماضي عزمه رفع العقوبات الأمريكية المفروضة على سورية.
وكان التكتل قد خفف بالفعل بعض العقوبات المتعلقة بقطاعات الطاقة والنقل وإعادة الإعمار، إضافة إلى المعاملات المالية المرتبطة بها، إلا أن بعض العواصم الأوروبية اعتبرت أن هذه الخطوات غير كافية لدعم الانتقال السياسي في سورية وتعافيها الاقتصادي.

The foreign ministers of the European Union agreed today to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria, according to what was announced by the bloc's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.
Kallas stated in a post on the "X" platform, after discussions with the ministers in Brussels: "We want to help the Syrian people rebuild a new, inclusive, and peaceful Syria." She added: "The European Union has always stood by the Syrians over the past 14 years, and we will continue to do so."
For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani thanked the European Union today for lifting the economic sanctions on his country.
Al-Shibani said in a post on the X platform: "We are achieving a new historic achievement with our Syrian people by lifting the EU sanctions imposed on Syria; many thanks to the EU countries and to everyone who contributed to this victory." He added: "This decision will enhance security, stability, and prosperity in Syria."
This shift in EU policy comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week his intention to lift the U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria.
The bloc had already eased some sanctions related to the energy, transport, and reconstruction sectors, in addition to the financial transactions associated with them, but some European capitals considered that these steps were insufficient to support the political transition in Syria and its economic recovery.
