أعلنت وزارة الخزانة البريطانية أن المملكة المتحدة اقتربت جداً من توقيع اتفاق تجاري مع دول الخليج العربي.
وفي وقت سابق اليوم، أكدت وزيرة الخزانة البريطانية، راشيل ريفيز لـ «العربية Business»، أن حكومتها تقترب من توقيع اتفاق تجاري مع مجلس التعاون الخليجي.
وقالت ريفيز: «هذا الاتفاق سيكون ثاني اتفاق تجاري رئيسي تبرمه الحكومة الحالية، التي تواصل جهودها لتعزيز علاقات بريطانيا التجارية مع دول العالم بعد الخروج من الاتحاد الأوروبي».
وأوضحت ريفيز، أن النمو الاقتصادي في بريطانيا سيتعزز من خلال الاتفاقيات التجارية الأخيرة مع الولايات المتحدة، والاتحاد الأوروبي، والهند.
وأضافت ريفيز: «بريطانيا في وضع أفضل من أي دولة أخرى في العالم من حيث شروط الاتفاقيات مع هذه الدول، ولدينا أول اتفاق وأفضلها حتى الآن مع الولايات المتحدة، كما توصلنا مع الاتحاد الأوروبي إلى أفضل اتفاق تبرمه أي دولة من خارج الاتحاد، وأبرمنا أفضل اتفاق تجاري مع الهند».
وأشارت وزيرة الخزانة إلى أن بريطانيا لا تفكر حاليّاً في إجراء مفاوضات تجارية مع الصين.
وكان وزير الخارجية البريطاني ديفيد لامي، قد أوضح في شهر أبريل الماضي، أن حكومة حزب العمال تواصل المناقشات مع دول الخليج بشأن الاتفاق التجاري، التي كانت قد بدأت في عهد الحكومة المحافظة السابقة.

The British Treasury announced that the United Kingdom is very close to signing a trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Earlier today, British Treasury Secretary Rachel Reeves confirmed to "Al Arabiya Business" that her government is nearing a trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Reeves stated, "This agreement will be the second major trade deal that the current government will sign, as it continues its efforts to strengthen Britain's trade relations with countries around the world following its exit from the European Union."
Reeves explained that economic growth in Britain will be bolstered by recent trade agreements with the United States, the European Union, and India.
She added, "Britain is in a better position than any other country in the world regarding the terms of agreements with these countries, and we have the first and best agreement so far with the United States, as well as reaching the best agreement any country outside the EU has made with the European Union, and we have signed the best trade agreement with India."
The Treasury Secretary indicated that Britain is not currently considering conducting trade negotiations with China.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy had clarified last April that the Labour Party government continues discussions with Gulf countries regarding the trade agreement, which had begun during the previous Conservative government.
