The Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities has announced the postponement of the seventh edition of the Baghdad International Theater Festival, named after the artist Raed Mohsen, which was scheduled to take place in the Iraqi capital from October 10 to 17, 2026.
Difficulties in Preparation
The ministry clarified in an official statement that the decision to postpone was made after coordination and discussions with the relevant authorities in the Cinema and Theater Department, in light of the financial and economic conditions that Iraq is experiencing, which have impacted the ability to provide the necessary requirements for organizing the festival and executing its artistic program as planned.
It emphasized that the decision does not represent a cancellation of the new edition, noting that an alternative date will be determined according to developments, circumstances, and available resources in the coming period, and the ministry will announce it officially as soon as it is settled.
Iraqi, Arab, and International Performances
The Baghdad International Theater Festival is one of the most prominent theatrical events in the Iraqi capital, featuring a program that brings together theatrical experiences and performances from Iraq, Arab countries, and various parts of the world.
The festival serves as a space for theater practitioners to meet and exchange experiences and artistic practices, in addition to contributing to revitalizing the theatrical movement and enhancing Iraq's cultural and artistic presence on the Arab and international stages.
Consecutive Postponements
Recently, the artistic scene has witnessed the suspension or rescheduling of several events and festivals in more than one country, due to exceptional circumstances that have imposed themselves on the scene, most notably the Red Sea International Film Festival, which postponed its edition amid the repercussions of war and regional conditions.
