The crisis involving Lebanese media figure Neshan and Egyptian media personality Yasmin Ezz has resurfaced following a new ruling in Dubai requiring Neshan to pay 50,000 dirhams in compensation to Yasmin Ezz, marking a new chapter in the dispute that began after the Arab Media Forum incident in 2023.
The ruling came in the wake of the disagreement that arose between the two during a session at the forum, when Neshan's comments regarding Yasmin Ezz's tardiness sparked widespread controversy that eventually led to legal proceedings in the UAE and Egypt.
In the UAE, the Dubai Court of Cassation upheld a ruling in March 2025 convicting Neshan and imposing a fine of ten thousand dirhams, making the ruling final in that regard. In Egypt, the case took a parallel legal course, as the Economic Court in Cairo sentenced Neshan in April 2025 to one month in prison with a bail of five thousand pounds and imposed a temporary civil compensation of 50,000 pounds, following accusations of defamation against Yasmin Ezz. Neshan's defense filed an appeal against the Egyptian ruling, while legal proceedings continued between the two parties.
Today's ruling issued in Dubai adds a new chapter to a case that began with the exchange of statements at a media event, before its repercussions expanded to reach the courts in two different countries.
