بعيداً عن القصص الاجتماعية التقليدية، فاجأ فيلم الإثارة السعودي الجديد «مسألة حياة أو موت» الصالات السينمائية، مقتحماً مناطق وعرة وظلت لسنوات طويلة بمثابة «تابوهات» بعيدة عن الشاشة المحلية، ليدور حول لعنات الغيب، والحظ، وكابوس الموت المحتوم وسط أجواء غرائبية تحبس الأنفاس.
الفيلم الذي أخرجه أنس باطرف، طرح رهاناً فنياً جريئاً جعل المشاهد يتقبل «المستحيل» كجزء من تفاصيل الحياة اليومية.
في قلب هذا العالم المظلم تقف «حياة» (التي تجسدها الفنانة سارة طيبة)، وهي شابة تعيش تحت وطأة فكرة مرعبة: اعتقاد راسخ بأن هناك لعنة عائلية ستنهي حياتها فور بلوغها سن الثلاثين.
هذا الكابوس جعلها تعيش بتهور وسخرية لا تبالي بأي شيء، بل وصل بها التحدي إلى محاولة استباق القدر واختيار لحظة موتها بنفسها في ليلة رأس السنة، مما أضفى على العمل مسحة صاعقة من الكوميديا السوداء.
هذه الأجواء الغرائبية امتدت لتشمل الديكور والمكان، فمنزل البطلة مكتظ بمئات الساعات التي تدق في وقت واحد كأنها آلة عملاقة لعدّ ثواني العمر المتبقية.
وتكتمل الأجواء السوداوية بظهور قطة سوداء غامضة تتقاطع مع موروث حول الجن واللعنات، إلى جانب «العمتين» غريبتي الأطوار (أماني الجميل وغادة عبود) اللتين تعيشان على قراءة الطالع والتنجيم، مما ألغى تماماً الخط الفاصل بين الواقع والأسطورة.
في المقابل، يظهر الفنان يعقوب الفرحان في دور الطبيب «يوسف»، وهو رجل يمثل صوت العلم والمنطق الحاسم.
لكن الإثارة تصل لشرارتها القصوى عندما يجد هذا الطبيب نفسه متورطاً في هذا العالم الذي لا يخضع لأي قانون علمي، ليقترب هو الآخر من مواجهة الموت وجهاً لوجه، ويتخلى عن صلابته تدريجياً ليكشف هشاشة إنسانية منحت الأداء تحولاً أشاد به النقاد.
Away from traditional social stories, the new Saudi thriller film "A Matter of Life or Death" surprised cinema audiences, venturing into rough areas that have long been considered "taboos" far from the local screen, revolving around the curses of fate, luck, and the nightmare of inevitable death amidst breath-holding surreal atmospheres.
The film, directed by Anas Batarfi, presented a bold artistic gamble that made the viewer accept the "impossible" as part of the details of daily life.
At the heart of this dark world stands "Hayat" (played by actress Sara Taibah), a young woman living under the weight of a terrifying idea: a firm belief that there is a family curse that will end her life as soon as she turns thirty.
This nightmare has led her to live recklessly and mockingly, indifferent to anything, even challenging fate by attempting to choose her moment of death herself on New Year's Eve, which added a shocking touch of black comedy to the work.
This surreal atmosphere extended to the decor and setting, as the heroine's house is cluttered with hundreds of clocks ticking simultaneously as if they were a giant machine counting down the remaining seconds of her life.
The gloomy atmosphere is further enhanced by the appearance of a mysterious black cat intersecting with folklore about jinn and curses, alongside the eccentric "aunts" (Amani Al-Jamil and Ghada Aboud) who live by reading fortunes and astrology, completely blurring the line between reality and myth.
In contrast, actor Yaqub Al-Farhan appears as the doctor "Yusuf," a man representing the voice of science and decisive logic.
However, the excitement reaches its peak when this doctor finds himself entangled in a world that defies any scientific law, bringing him face to face with death as well, gradually shedding his rigidity to reveal a human fragility that transformed the performance, earning critical acclaim.
