In a corner of the Al-Baha Colors Exhibition at Dar Awda in Al-Tawilah, a painting overflows with a spirit that is both absent and present, a work crafted by the hands of the late artist and calligrapher Saeed Lafi, marking his final impact; his participation felt like a farewell message, unaware that it would be the conclusion of his journey with letters and life.
He contributed his vibrant calligraphy to this painting as he always did, loving art and loyal to its aesthetic identity, believing that Arabic letters are not just shapes but a message, a value, and an extension of the spirit of place and humanity. After his sudden departure, the letters remained as witnesses to him, speaking of his inner beauty before the beauty of his script.
The pain of loss is great, but the letters did not leave a void; they took its place, carrying his features and narrating the story of one who lived for art and died serving it. He was not just a calligrapher but an ambassador for the homeland with his good character and kind demeanor, always smiling and present at every occasion.
He represented the letters both inside and outside the homeland, generous with his time, effort, and ethics.
He was indeed the best ambassador for Arabic calligraphy and for the character of the young Saudi in his manners, kindness, honesty, and dedication to representing the homeland in the best light. Saeed Lafi has passed away, but he left in the hearts of those who knew him a light that does not dim and a fragrant legacy that will continue to be told whenever someone passes by a painting he once created with his heart before his hand.
May God have mercy on him and grant him vast mercy, and may what he has offered be weighed in his favor, and may He place him in His spacious gardens and reward him abundantly for his homeland, his art, and his morals.
