Why has the project for the Taibah University Hospital in Medina, which signed its contract in 2012 with a capacity of 400 beds in the first phase and is located on King Abdulaziz Road, been delayed and stalled?
“Okaz” surveyed opinions regarding this vital medical project for the residents..
The writer Abdulghani Al-Qash says: We all know that hospitals are an integral part of providing care for everyone, as they are centers for essential medical care and services, operating with all their medical staff in emergency departments, intensive care, surgical operations, and outpatient clinics; to treat diseases, save lives, and maintain public health. When we talk about the long-awaited university hospital at Taibah University, which has been in the making for over 20 years, we realize that its establishment significantly contributes to enhancing medical research services, improving healthcare for patients, and keeping pace with the changing community needs regarding contemporary diseases in particular and healthcare in general..
Continuous appeal
Al-Qash adds: The long-stalled hospital, which has been delayed, was something the people of Medina hoped would be a priority for those in charge of the university. I recall that a press conference was held, and this issue was raised strongly, and it has been more than five years since that conference, and we still have not seen it. At a time when Medina is expanding horizontally and rapidly, and the population is growing steadily, everyone is left in confusion and anticipation. It is unacceptable for a university to be established, and two decades later, the signs of its establishment are still delayed. The residents of Medina, whether citizens or expatriates, eagerly await the university hospital so that medical students can find their needs met in the hospital and have the opportunity to apply what they have learned practically under the direct supervision of university professors. Additionally, the residents yearn for exceptional healthcare services provided by the university's medical professors, expecting them to be distinctive and high-quality, and we hope for the acceleration of this project.
A long-awaited dream
The educational and educational consultant Dr. Fahd Al-Omari clarified that the university hospital was announced in 1433 AH, and that work is underway to establish it at a cost of 500 million. Since that date, we have been waiting for it despite its importance in providing services to university staff, academics, and students, and its supposed role in qualifying, training, and developing health colleges and serving the community in Medina while alleviating the burdens on hospitals.
Al-Omari adds: I hope it opens soon; it is a dream that has long been awaited. We are waiting for clarification from the university administration regarding the reasons for the delay and stalling of the project, and then looking for solutions, especially since the hospital will be an important resource for the residents of Medina in providing therapeutic services.
“Okaz” sent an official email to the spokesperson for Taibah University, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Murwani, multiple times, but we did not receive any response by the time this report was prepared.
