When "Abraha the Ashram" directed his armies coming from Yemen towards Mecca, he had no military justification for war; neither did the Quraysh attack him in his homeland, nor did the sons of the noble Arab tribes assault his kingdom in Sana'a. His reasons were related to the idea of halting the rapid rise of Mecca.
It is a single war against the Arabian Peninsula, its people, its tribes, its religion, and its sacred house, starting from the battle of the Persian Shah "Shapur the One with Shoulders" in 325 AD, then the elephant of "Abraha the Ashram" in 570 AD, up to the "Houthi" war on Mecca today.
The main dilemma in dealing with the Arabian Peninsula was: how could the Arabs have a revered Kaaba to which people pilgrimage, and how did Mecca transform from a simple Tihama village into a global religious capital in that era - and still is, with its flourishing businesses, developed trade, and even a wide regional trade alliance it called "the Iylaf," which in turn reflected on the rest of the geography of the Arabian Peninsula in terms of trade, civilization, and values.
Hatred, jealousy, and grudges were what drove Abraha's army, and they are the same forces that drive the enemies of the geography of the Arabian Peninsula, of which Saudi Arabia constitutes 80%.
But Abraha was not the first; before him, the Persian king "Shapur the One with Shoulders," also known as "Sabur ibn Hormuz," led a major military campaign against the people of the Arabian Peninsula in 325 AD, targeting the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. During this campaign, he killed members of the tribes of Abdul Qais, Bakr ibn Wa'il, and Tamim, using severe acts of genocide against them. As for the captives, he pursued them until he nearly reached the west of the peninsula, where he would pierce their shoulders or dislocate them and bind them with ropes, earning him the title "the One with Shoulders" among the Arabs.
Here too, the aim of his war was to prevent the people of the Arabian Peninsula from trading and building civilized communities.
The wars against the regions of the Arabian Peninsula did not cease, and hatred remained the primary motivator, becoming entrenched, deep-rooted, and inherited, leading to the emergence of a movement that specifically targeted the people of the Arabian Peninsula, depriving them of jobs and education, and attempting to keep them in a state of ignorance, disease, and hunger within the walls of their local communities.
In 1514 AD, a political and military alliance was formed between the Portuguese Empire and the Safavid state led by Shah Ismail I, based on the principle of controlling trade routes and Islamic sanctities. This Safavid-Portuguese alliance targeted Mecca, sending two military campaigns to Jeddah in preparation for reaching and demolishing the revered Kaaba, which is what is happening today.
As soon as Imam Muhammad ibn Saud established his first Saudi state, the first central state in the Arabian Peninsula since the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the fears of the "Alliance of Enemies" regarding the rise of the "sleeping beast," referring here to the Arabian Peninsula, returned.
Therefore, enemies from regional states at that time and European Christian powers conspired against Imam Muhammad ibn Saud and his emerging state. The army of "Muhammad Ali Pasha" and his son Ibrahim, who came as invaders of the Arabian Peninsula targeting its capital "Diriyah," did not come alone but sought the help of European experts. The French historian Félix Manguin mentions in his famous work "The History of Egypt during Muhammad Ali" that "among the important preparations for the Pasha's army was a European brigade of doctors and surgeons, including the doctor Antonio Scoto, and the surgeons Andrea Gentile and Tedeschini, and the pharmacist Socio... During the battles under the walls of Diriyah, an artillery shell fired by the defenders of the place struck the leg of the surgeon Gentile, forcing his colleagues to amputate it on the battlefield."
Regarding the military experts, he also states: "Ibrahim Pasha did not pay any attention to the opinions of the French military expert Vassier at the beginning of the campaign, but after the heavy losses he suffered before the city of Al-Rass, he entrusted him with managing military operations. From that point on, the Pasha became an executor of the plans and tactics prepared by Vassier and the European officers, particularly in directing artillery towards Shuqra and Dhurma, and even besieging Diriyah."
Thus, we are facing a long and extended war of hatred against the Arabian Peninsula, with its roots in Persia and its branches in the hands of the Houthis, initiated by Shah "Shapur the One with Shoulders," followed by Abraha, then Muhammad Ali Pasha, and now the Houthis who are following in the footsteps of their Persian and Ethiopian ancestors, targeting the revered Kaaba, attempting to recreate the battle of "the elephant" that did not succeed, to demolish the Kaaba and the noble dome, and to disrupt worship in the two holy mosques, ultimately aiming to thwart the renaissance and civilization of Saudi Arabia, the heir to most of the geography of the Arabian Peninsula.
