The federals and others were optimistic about the German coach Jens Wissing, after they noticed his distinctive coaching philosophy in managing matches, which reflected on the remarkable technical levels displayed by the Tigers and the satisfactory results they achieved. Not to mention his successful choices for the starting lineup, the substitutions he made, and his good timing in bringing in the right player, capable of adding strength to the team and contributing to raising its technical performance.
-All these indicators made the federals view Wissing as a coach with a different mindset, capable of utilizing the available elements in a way that helps the team overcome difficulties and compete with rivals, despite the rumors about the federation lacking some elements capable of making a difference in major confrontations.
-However, this confidence did not last long; after the matches against Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli Youth from the UAE, the picture changed, and the coach we praised for his ideas became a subject of questioning and criticism. Anyone who watched the two matches cannot help but clap their hands in despair over the performance of the federation, questioning the reasons that led to this sudden decline.
-To avoid any misunderstanding and for clarification, losing one or two matches does not necessarily mean that the coach is a failure; this is the nature of football, where results remain open to all possibilities. But the real problem lies in the way the team loses, in the technical decisions made by the coach, and in his ability to read the opponent and deal with their strengths and weaknesses.
-Here lies the point of criticism; in these two matches, unfortunately, Wissing "failed" the federation! The style of play he adopted gave the impression that he did not read the opponents as required, and his choices for the lineup and the substitutions he made raised questions about their suitability to the flow of the game. Perhaps the match against Al-Ahli Youth specifically was enough to reconsider many of the convictions we had formed about the coach, especially since the repercussions of this setback do not only concern the result of a match, but extend to the team's position in the league and the Asian elite championship.
-Let’s talk about the defense line, whether in terms of the center-backs or the full-backs, and we find that the defensive flaws represent one of the most prominent problems the team suffers from, a problem that the coaching staff has not succeeded in mitigating during the two matches. The five goals that shook the net of the brilliant goalkeeper Raikovic necessitate a long pause regarding the defensive organization, coverage errors, and the players' ability to deal with the movements of the opponents. While some goals may have resulted from naive individual mistakes, this does not absolve the coach of the responsibility of preparing the defensive system and addressing the recurring gaps on the field.
-On the other hand, the coach cannot be solely blamed for everything that happened; the players also bear responsibility for the mistakes they make, especially when it comes to elements that are supposed to possess the experience and ability to handle big matches.
-On another note, I do not know what has happened to the levels of some players, including Hossam Aouar, Pereira, Fares Aaid, Mohannad Shankiti, and Bergwijn, as the decline in performance was evident, alongside what appeared to be a drop in the team's physical fitness. These are indicators that require the coaching staff to review their calculations and search for the reasons behind this decline, whether they are technical, physical, or related to other circumstances that affected the players' performance.
-I am certain that some will say that Wissing is not to blame, and that the available elements do not help him present the best, and that the federation needs high-level players to compete with big teams.
In reality, this argument contains a part of the truth, but it does not serve as an excuse to exempt the coach from accountability. How can we praise his coaching philosophy, commend his ability to utilize players, choose the right lineup, and make substitutions at the right time, and then ignore his responsibility when the team performs at this level in two consecutive matches?
-Realistically, if Wissing has convinced us in previous matches, it is natural for us to demand a technical explanation for what happened, and to expect him to correct the mistakes instead of repeating them. A successful coach is not only measured by his ability to achieve results when things go as he wants, but also by his ability to deal with crises, correct the course, and restore the team's balance when it faces setbacks.
-With all that said, fairness requires that we do not limit the problem to the coach alone; the responsibility for building a competitive team starts from the management, through player selections, and ends with the technical work on the field.
-To be frank, I do not see that the federation can go far in the league, cup, or elite championship if it continues at the same level, and its technical problems remain unaddressed. Perhaps the question that arises is: Does the federation possess the elements capable of competing for these championships, or are the ambitions of its fans greater than the available technical capabilities of the team?
-The answer to this question can only come from the club's owners and management; hiring a good coach, no matter how capable, is not enough if the team is not reinforced with high-level players capable of making a difference in big matches. The federation, with its history, popularity, and the ambitions of its supporters, should not settle for mere participation; rather, its fans have the right to see their team as a real competitor for championships. Therefore, what is required is not just holding Wissing accountable, nor exonerating the players from their mistakes, but rather a comprehensive review that starts from the coaching staff, passes through the elements present on the field, and reaches the management responsible for providing the tools the team needs to compete.
-If the situation continues as it is, with mere exchanges of responsibilities and justifications for failures, it will not change the reality of the federation, nor will it restore the joys of championships that its loyal fans are waiting for. Otherwise, "forget" about competition, and let the loyal fans of the federation pray by saying: "From You, compensation, and to You, compensation, O Lord."
