The repetition of traffic accidents at certain points on main roads and intersections is evidence of a flaw in the planning of these roads or in the flow of traffic. This repetition should prompt officials in the transportation, urban planning, and traffic sectors to take immediate action, especially when these accidents result in fatalities or injuries, in addition to disrupting traffic!
I remember that I was once visiting the Haroub governorate in the Jazan region, and I noticed that rock masses filled a mountain road that is usually taken by school students, which threatens the lives of its users, especially when darkness falls. I took pictures of those rocks and sent a message to one of the officials in the transportation sector, hoping that he would quickly direct the removal of these rocks and secure the mountain slopes with steel nets to prevent future landslides and rock falls. His response was that road maintenance is subject to scheduling, and the issue will be addressed according to this schedule. I replied that the lives of people may not wait for the scheduled maintenance of this road!
There are cases related to transportation safety, and the movement of vehicles requires immediate action that goes beyond the bureaucracy of schedules and routine procedures. The mere occurrence of accidents due to planning or execution errors is considered a breach of responsibility. How much more so is it when ignoring the need to address them upon their recurrence, especially those that cause multiple vehicle collisions, as happened on the road to Mecca in Riyadh!
We have enough suffering from the poor paving of some roads and street potholes, and the poor planning of some entrances and exits, which causes our cars to shake and shortens their lifespan. However, what threatens human lives and the safety of their bodies cannot be accepted or tolerated in any way!
