Volunteering is a duty and a great human virtue that reinforces the meaning of solidarity among people, regardless of any considerations. The support of one person for another in times of crisis is felt only by those in need who have been cut off and have had doors closed in front of them. This virtue has become a hallmark of Saudi society, and its culture has begun to spread significantly after curricula and media started to discuss, promote, and encourage it.
I will talk about an exemplary model of the Saudi individual, through what I witnessed of the great work of Saudi medical personnel in Syria during a short visit last week, where the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works oversees a comprehensive volunteer program, including attracting health professionals to volunteer in various needy countries. In Syria, we saw doctors in various specialties working day and night, with great passion, sincere desire, and unlimited dedication to provide their knowledge and expertise in difficult circumstances. They are not only performing their medical duties but also supervising the training of Syrian medical staff and the organizational and logistical rehabilitation of hospitals, as well as operating the modern equipment provided by the center to health facilities.
These doctors, as much as they embody the most wonderful human giving, also represent the advanced level of medicine in the Kingdom, as they perform advanced medical procedures that reflect their skills and ability to work in difficult conditions. What’s even more beautiful is that the doctors are competing to join the volunteer program significantly, from all regions of the Kingdom, driven by a sincere desire to participate in humanitarian work.
The relief efforts provided by the center have reached 108 countries around the world, including medical relief that has instilled hope in the hearts of patients who have reached the most extreme stages of despair. From here, we urge all those who can contribute, in any field, to join this humanitarian program, which will be a bright addition to their journey.
