There are no ceilings or limits to the surprises of President Donald Trump. Since entering the White House, the world has been unable to predict what he might decide each day. A whirlwind of unprecedented decisions has swept through both domestic and international arenas, confusing his citizens and all the inhabitants of the planet. One of his latest decisions was to issue an executive order last Friday to change the name of the Department of Defense to the "Department of War." Swiftly, we saw the sign change on the department's building, and the Secretary of Defense became the Secretary of War.
In justifying his decision, President Trump stated that the new name is "more appropriate in light of the current state of the world," adding that it "sends a message of victory" to the world. The White House justified Trump's desire to change the name by saying that "the President believes this department should bear a name that reflects its unparalleled strength and ability to protect national interests," reminding that the United States has the largest army in the world, and the goal is to impose "peace through strength" and ensure "the world respects the United States once again."
Trump has returned the department to its old name, which had changed after the end of wars, the emergence of a new world order, and the establishment of the United Nations. After World War II, which was decided by America with its atomic bomb, the U.S. engaged in several wars, such as in Vietnam and Korea, and its relations with the Soviet Union became dangerously strained. It invaded countries, as happened in Afghanistan and Iraq, faced the largest terrorist attack on its soil with the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York, and experienced tensions that brought the world to the brink of disaster. Despite all this, America did not decide to adopt a state of war by changing the name of the Department of Defense.
With all these concerns, the world still recalls President Trump's statements that if he had been present during his predecessor's time, wars would not have occurred in the world, and that his mission during his term is to end current wars. He even aspires to win the Nobel Peace Prize. How does this align with transforming the Department of the largest army in the world into a Department of War? Who does Trump want to fight, and whom does he want to defeat? How is this more appropriate in light of the current state of the world, as he claims, while the world still relies on him, according to his promises, to end wars and crises? What will America do with a world that can no longer bear more?
