Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmed al-Hajar announced during a press conference in Beirut on Tuesday that the largest cocaine smuggling operation into Lebanon had been thwarted based on accurate information received from Saudi authorities to the Anti-Narcotics Office. For his part, the security spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Talal al-Shalhoub, stated that the operation was made possible thanks to proactive security monitoring of the activities of criminal networks engaged in drug smuggling, and based on information provided by the Saudi Interior Ministry, represented by the Narcotics Control Directorate, to its counterpart in Lebanon.
On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that U.S. forces attacked a boat carrying a large quantity of drugs after it left Venezuela and destroyed it, confirming the tightening of the blockade on drug smuggling to America and fighting it with all strength; meaning that the head of state himself announced the news, not the Drug Enforcement Administration or the Border Patrol.
Here we revisit the well-known truth about the mafia of deadly drug production and trafficking, and the power and influence it enjoys on a global level, as well as its ability to penetrate borders, yet it is always in confrontation with the authorities combating it, and the success rate depends on the strength, integrity, and information of those authorities.
The Kingdom has been, and still is, a primary target for being flooded with drugs by regional and international gangs, and we must acknowledge that it has become a troubling problem after it has claimed many of our youth, both male and female, from various age groups, costing us many social, health, and security issues. However, the good news is that security agencies, led by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, have developed significantly in recent years in terms of their informational preemptiveness regarding smuggling attempts, not only for the Kingdom but also for several countries due to the extensive coordination between relevant authorities and the wide monitoring of smuggling networks carried out by the Kingdom, achieving significant and successive successes.
Despite all this, we are facing a general problem that does not concern only official entities; it is a problem that requires the community's efforts to combine with the state to contain the deadly toxins that are claiming our youth and destroying their minds and bodies. These individuals are ultimately victims, while the criminals are the importation, distribution, and promotion gangs, from the highest level to the lowest. It is the community's duty to contribute in any way it can to report any suspicions regarding drugs through official channels that provide confidentiality and protection, but it is also important to continue and intensify awareness of the dangers of drugs everywhere and through all means, as it is a merciless killer.
